So today in Japanese class, we were learning how to describe the placement of objects using the ~て+ある form. In our Japanese classes, we tend to spend a lot of time doing "classroom activities", which basically involve interviewing classmates and having them interview you, while applying the new grammar and vocabulary we just learned. We usually do at least 1 of these every class.

For today's, we had to walk around and interview each other about things and their locations in our rooms, eg. "机の上に、何が置いてありますか?" (What have you placed on top of your desk?) "コンピューターが置いてあります." (My computer is placed on top of my desk.)

While Amy (a fellow Design major in my year, although she went ID and not CD) were interviewing each other, our teacher, Ichikawa-sensei, happened to walk by and listen to us practice just as Amy was asking me, "ベッドの上に、何が置いてありますか."

Me: "You're asking me what's on top of my bed? ええと... 「stuffed penguin」が置いてあります...?"

Ichikawa-sensei laughed and said, "「ペンギンの縫いぐるみ」."

I don't know why this made me so ridiculously happy, but it did. Maybe because I now know how to say "stuffed penguin" in Japanese. Or maybe it was the grin on his face while he said it. It made me want to go, "SQUEE!"

YES SOMETIMES I AM A LITTLE KID INSIDE OKAY. :
