There was a huge amount of discussion earlier this year about warnings, and I've changed my warnings policy as an outcome of that discussion. As a fan writer, I'd rather tell people what might be distressing in a story than risk them being triggered in some way by that story. I do put my warnings in white text on white, so people can choose to skip them if they wish and not be spoiled.
Fan writing and pro writing happen in different venues, with different expectations from the reader. Part of those expectations include warnings for potentially triggering material. It's what a fan writer has to do to play here.
I agree completely with you on auther's notes and begging for comments. Yuck.
BDSM - I'm so there. MPREG - my guilty pleasure. Kinks, so and so tops or so and so bottoms...it's all good to me.
I just feel that a well written summary is what should be used to entice a reader to stay or go and that fanfiction doesn't need to be so different from any other fiction.
On the other hand, as someone who has written in the past and finally got my muse back and is working on a new story...I think the writers should do whatever floats their own boat.
I guess really more than anything, that is my point. A writer should write because they have a story to tell and a little less worry about what 'fandom' demands and a little less attention to counting the number of comments at the end of each chapter would be nice.
Ah, you see, I list Kinks and Warnings separately.
My headers read something like:
Warning: Contains material that may be triggering. Highlight here for details Character death
or
Kink: Bondage, spanking.
That second option is called 'advertising'.
I wouldn't put anything about mpreg in the header. Mpreg just means I haven't stepped away from the keyboard for too long.
Stupid bastard livejournal. If dreamwidth and insanejournal will let me just put the name of the color in, why won't livejournal? Sorry about that.
omg, I'm so sorry about what I just did to your inbox in an attempt to get this freaking code to work. Livejournal, no wonder I divorced you years ago.
