The "cached selves" thing has a positive flip-side: you can use the effect to psychologically manipulate your future self for your own good.

Yes, they do mention the "fake it til you make it" techinique. I think that works for behaviour, but it's hard to see how you apply it to belief. If I hang out with Green Skyers who often make fun of Blue Skyers, it probably doesn't help that I try to see myself as someone who can change his mind when presented with new evidence. Perhaps the solution is to stop reading the comments from the peanut gallery at richarddawkins.net :-)

Arguably Reddit has gone down hill quite badly since it came in to existence. I'd say Hacker News is much better, largely because they maintain doctrinal purity, only true worshippers of the LISP Jesus are allowed in.

Apparently Stack Overflow is like Reddit 2.0 (in terms of the ideas behind it, not the content).
