Fifty-Fifth Journal Entry

[Backdated to Saturday]

I know that I promised I'd have a puzzle up last week, but considering recent events, it didn't seem... appropriate. To make up for it, I will have two today.

One:

How many times will a digital clock on twelve-hour time display three of the same number in a row on the same day? For example, 10:00 has three zeroes in a row, and there is both a 10 AM and a 10 PM, so that's two. The clock only displays hours and minutes.

Two:

Two people are having a rather unusual race on horseback. Rather then trying to get to the finish line the fastest, the winner will be the one whose horse crosses the finish line last. The two are riding along as slowly as possible, when a bystander speaks to them for a moment and gives them some advice. A few moments later, they gallop full-speed toward the finish line. What the bystander tell them to do?

[OOC: Answers: 34 and switch horses]
