Some of you may have seen this already, but for those who have not, CMU professor Randy Pausch delivered a 'Last Lecture' on the topic of
'Really Achieving Your Childhood Dreams' on September 18. I haven't been able to watch the video yet, but even just reading the transcript moved me. If you have some time and need a little inspiration, I encourage you to do the same.
It's funny how you run across stories like this sometimes. I happened to be browsing a web site for a charitable walk in which one of our relatives participated recently. The news item on the sidebar,
"Dr. Randy Pausch Delivers 'Last Lecture'", caught my eye because I recognized his name. He taught computer science at my college, and I had hoped to take his data structures class because I had heard it was excellent, but it never seemed to fit my schedule. Several of my friends had Randy as an academic adviser, and enjoyed the experience thoroughly.
It was amazing to me to learn about his accomplishments during and since the time that I knew him (I had met him even though I never took his class). Life can take you on quite a journey, including some unexpected detours along the way. It's the rare person who can actually learn all the lessons that life teaches you along that journey. I aspire to become one of them.
