Courses of Action to achieve Ensured Dogfield Mobility

Course of Action 1:  "Double Down"
Rationale: by Fairfax County Law Dogs are allowed off leash during legal hunting activities.
Intent: Walk dogs dressed in shooting jacket with double barreled shotgun broken over arm.  When asked, we are hunting snipe or tennis Concerns: could unite the forces of stupidity anti-dog and anti-gun factions.  Would almost ensure that some poor police officer gets called and subjected to excessive drama and bad humor.

Course of Action 2: "Dog School"
Rationale: by Fairfax County Law Dogs are allowed off leash during supervised official dog training and shows.
Intent: Post sign stating that dog training is taking place in the field.  Bring other dog owners to the field and ensure that all dogs are well supervised.
Concerns: Fairfax county law does not define what constitutes a supervised official dog training activity.  I'm not sure my argument that proper dog training is an ongoing event that must incorporate the dog owner would fly.

Course of Action 3: "The path of futility"
Rationale: Try to get the law changed or get the area designated as an "off-leash" area.
Concern: Would like to be able to go the field while my dogs are still alive.

Course of Action 4: "Deputization"
Rationale: Convince smjayman to deputize Chance and his sidekick West to help deal with the proliferation of tennis balls and lazy squirrels in the greater Centreville/Chantilly area.
Concern:  I'm afraid West would be a bit of a Barney Fife deputy.
