Books :)

I have been on a reading spree :)...No-- I haven't as yet read the latest HP :((....but plan on doing it as soon as my sister gives me the book.

I started off with Indira Gandhi's biography by Katherine Frank--I almost wish our NCERT History books were written by her (that would have made History seem like less of a drudgery!). The biography is very insightful, and really put our Country's modern history in perspective. Additionally, the tid-bits about Indu-boy made it even more entertaining...

I also read Jhumpa Lahiri's Namesake (amaaazing book!) as well as The Interpreter of Maladies (hmpff! difficult to imagine both the books were written by the same person!). The other author I caught up with was Chitra Bannerjee Divakaruni...read Arranged Marriage followed by Sister of My Heart. I really liked Sister of my Heart-it does get a trifle filmi but the book was an absolute page turner for me! Today I started out with Amulya Malladi's Mango Season-so far I am not too impressed....hopefully the story will pick up soon. Also, the mango pickle recipe's preceding the chapters are so lame!!!

Life after the comps is truly worth living :))....I also caught up with my movie quota...saw War of the Worlds-though I'm not overly fond of blood and gore (and aliens!!), the film was very engaging...and Dakota Fanning is superb! The other angrezi film I watched was Batman.....the film was pretty blah! I wasn't into the Superman/Batman/Phantom comics as a kid, and I guess since I wasn't 'initiated' into them as a child, I can't even enjoy it for the sake of nostalgia!

My advisers will be coming over to my place for dinner this Friday (hopefully their stomach's will take kindly to indian food :) )
