(no subject)
It’s putting it very mildly to say that the weather around here has sucked deeply this winter. We have had at least one snowstorm a week, the most recent one being Monday. I’m getting a little tired of shoveling, shoveling, shoveling. After the most recent storm, everyone on the street where I live got their walks and cars all dug out and ready to go - and then a snowplow came around at 11 at night and plowed everyone back in. Real considerate, right? (And when you tried to shovel the snow again the next day, it had all turned to solid ice. Lovely).
Today, we’ve dodged the bullet in that we’re getting rain. (Of course, all this is supposed to freeze solid tonight, because the temperatures are going to drop severely). However, it’s an ice storm where my brother lives in Philadelphia - a weighted-down tree branch fell on the bar/gazebo he has in his back yard and smashed it. (His girlfriend’s parents already had their car smashed and power lines snapped by another tree during Monday’s storm. They made the Philadelphia news).
Oh, and we’re getting more snow next week. Yippee dippee doo.
Meanwhile, I just overheard two of the college-age kids who work in my office part-time talking about “back in the LiveJournal days.” Wow. I figured LJ was on the way out - I’m seeing fewer and fewer posts lately, and the ones I’m seeing are getting less and less responses - but this is the first time I’ve actually heard someone proclaim it dead and buried. (I’m still holding on to mine, as you can see!)
I’m still trying to figure out where the hay everyone is posting J-rock fanfics nowadays if it’s not on LJ, or Dreamwidth, or AO3. I’ve heard of an AsianFanfics.com, but that apparently is mostly J-pop and K-pop. I do wonder if the J-rock community is gradually stopping writing fics altogether and going over to just roleplay like the animanaga community did - which would explain all the RP ads I’ve seen on Tumblr. I don’t really want to do that - I did the roleplay thing in a few organized games and the freeform D. Gray-Man Dressing Room, and it’s just not the same as fic. For one thing, I like being in control of all the characters, not just one! (For another, RP just seems to lead to wank - which is the primary reason why I quit).
