we had this huge discussion about women in advertising [specifically mothers and wives] in my english class. my teacher felt that women today have come a long way from being only pictured within the home to now showing that she has a job ( Read more... )

I can't believe you people. The guy comes in her honestly expressing his opinion. Calming explaining why he says what he says and after you respond "Seething with rage" he casually agrees with disagree. And here you guys are attacking him with half-truths and sexist remarks! "Women withstand pain better, *snap snap snap*"

I feel sorry for the guy and for the women's equality. What we need is not brash out lashing of anger, but to try and come to a calm understanding. The guy made his point, there are inherent differences in men and women, both sociological and physical. He then points out that the media dumbs down the male because it's the only PC gender to make fun of right now. Why couldn't you other people have followed his example?

Rosiexriveter - "totally dismiss the popular sexist thinking that women are only fit for housework--in that the women are the hunter/gatherers and the men are the caretakers." When you say "popular sexist thinking" who are you attacking? The guy isn’t saying you belong in a kitchen, he's saying that naturally you should leave men to the mountain climbing and fighting bears. What are you trying to accomplish by broadening the issue? Here's a question, if women were supposed to be the hunter-gatherers, then what are boobs? "Lunch on the go"? How about we make a deal, you wrestle greenpenquin84 and if you win I'll let you go fight lions and buffalo.

pushyouaround: "i'm afraid that i have no been able to process my rage to such mindsets in order to respond in a mature and fashionable way."
yet you posted anyways. shut up.
"enraged by ignorant boys who are simply a product of their american upbringing and the media they choose to surround themselves with."
what are you?!? living on a damn mountain? shut up!

starkiss: "It goes both ways, and it's unfair to both sexes, but ultimately women suffer more because we're a minority already." So are you claiming "first dibs" on the sexism? Women can take more pain because of childbirth? What about in war when a lieutenants gets shot in the face then army crawls all the way over to the radio only to order a napalm strike on his own location just so he can take out the enemy. That's tough. (I don’t know if that actually happened but if it did it'd be really cool)

hooray for understanding and knowledge. One day you guys (hah, get it, sexist cause I said guys) will understand that there -are- inherent differences between the sexes but that does not make one less or better than the other. greenpenguin84, you were wrong on one main point: you gave a logical argument expecting one back. Next time don't make that mistake. Just nod and agree :D

Oh and I'm only responding to people who responded to greenpenguin84 because that's who's lj I came from and I didn’t care to read the rest of the thread. Have a nice day everyone and if you're angered by the post don't be, I had fun writing it and expect you all to have fun reading it.

though there is a lot to repond to in this comment. i find that this didn't quite anger me as much as zachary's did. maybe its b/c i feel sorry for you. or maybe its b/c you sound so ridiculous. well spoken and yet ridiculous.

amazing.

i don't think you understood anything that was going on. your responses of 'shut up' prove it. but that's alright.

you did help me realize one thing though. and for that i will thank you for.

thank you for helping me understand that there will always be people out there that i disagree with. that fluster me. close minded conservatives that is. anyway i suggest you stay in your own journal and post your anger/ignorance/condescending nature there next time b/c this never had anything to do with you.

one more thing. if you'll notice in my reply to xpuella8x and rosiexriveter [not to zachary] i recognized my first reaction to anger as immaturity. not that its any of your business.

i did have fun reading your response though. funny stuff. ok i'm done. bye now.
