... Actually, I have a vague hope that things will get so bad in this state that people will start to wake up and realize that the services that they receive aren't free. I don't think that Prop 13 could be repealed now, but maybe in 2012, especially if a lot of the poor turn out to vote for Obama again.
Unfortunately, since the poor don't generally vote and can't contribute to campaigns, they're going to get fucked really badly before that happens, as more and more funds get stripped from the poor to pay for the rich, and children will get fucked as well because schools and colleges will also have their money slowly stripped away.
I fully expect that if the voters don't wise up in time (and they won't), we will start having riots here. There will be prison riots, and there will be riots in the cities. I wouldn't live in a big city right now for love or money, because it's going to happen, and it's going to be very, very ugly.
In human bodies, relationships, ecosystems, and pretty much everywhere else, there are 'tipping points'. If you pour a slow stream of sand, it'll form a mound until suddenly, a big part of it will slide down the side. Nobody knows how to predict when these tipping points will happen, but California's headed for one, and I think the state's gonna wind up on an entirely new course when that happens.
