California: It's for the rich

Well, the state has already burned through half its firefighting budget fighting the big fire down near LA. A lot of the problem is that they can't just put in a good sized firebreak and let it burn, because there's a ton of houses built by people with no common sense out in the middle of fire country that the firefighters have to try and save, sometimes at the cost of their lives.

Oh, did I mention that the usual fire season hasn't even started yet?

I'm going to be very interested to see what happens when we run out of money. Because we will, and California's debt rating is such right now that good fucking luck borrowing more to bridge the gap. This is more evidence, I think that people living in disaster-prone areas where people really shouldn't be living (fireprone areas or floodplanes, for example) should be paying a very hefty 'save my ass' tax to the state which could go towards saving their ass when the inevitable happens.

Which they never will, because the people living in the stupid places and acting like the firefighters who save their lives are paid by the tooth fairy, while the easter bunny pulls all of their equipment out of his ass are rich. So instead, they'll stop giving healthcare to poor kids or something.
