Disclaimer: I OWN ALL THE POWER RANGERS!!!! YEah, who am I kidding? No I don't. If I did... well, SO many less problems. Saban does. And if they ever start putting on episodes again...
A/N: For
psyco_chick32. Not exactly what you requested, but Astronema wouldn't cooperate, so.
Hey, whatever happened to... the ranger newsletter who's name I forgot? I miss it... :(
Summary: Astronema and Zhane go on a date.
Awkward Silences
"Are... you ok?" Zhane asked tentatively.
"I'm fine!" Astronema snapped back.
"Ok... It's just that-"
"What?"
"Well it might be a little hard to eat with that fork now..."
"What?" Astronema asked, confused. She looked down as Zhane gestured to the fork in her hand. She had managed to bend it to such an angle that it would indeed be rather impossible to eat with. She glared at the fork for a minute before hurtling it across the room.
Neither of them spoke for a minute.
"Are you going to tell me what's wrong?" Zhane asked finally.
"No," she said plainly.
"Ok," he said, looking down at his plate. "So the weather on Triforia is really nice."
Astronema raised an eyebrow at him.
"What?"
"The weather on Triforia?"
"Well," Zhane started, taking a bite of his salad. "We can't talk about Earth. And we can't talk about my life, or your life, clearly politics is a bad idea, and I doubt you go to many movies... So it was either that or sharing our thoughts on the theories of interdimentional travel. Since I don't know the first thing about interdimensional travel, I thought that the weather on Triforia would be a better topic."
Astronema just stared at him. "I've only visited another dimension twice," she said finally, taking a bite of her food.
It occurred to Zhane to wonder where she had gotten another fork from, but her comment seemed like a far more interesting topic, "You've been to another dimension?"
"Yes," Astronema said plainly.
She looked up after a moment to find him looking at her, obviously waiting for her to go on. "I went for Dark Specter," she told him.
"Oh."
Another silence set in between them.
"You know," Zhane said, almost hesitantly, after what seemed like a long time. "If this is going to work, we have to find something we can talk about." He thought he saw her sigh, but he couldn't be sure.
"I know," she told him. Another silence. "I don't think this can work, as long as you remain a Power Ranger."
"Astronema-"
"I don't trust you. And I know that you don't trust me. There's nothing we can talk about with each other without giving away intel."
"That's not true," Zhane argued.
"What, Triforia?"
Zhane thought about it for a minute, trying to come up with something. He couldn't think of anything. "Is it about us?" he asked finally.
"What?" she asked, pushing the food around on her plate.
"The reason you're upset."
Astronema looked at him. "No," she said finally, "not exactly."
Another silence. Zhane sighed inwardly. This was ridiculous. Here he was, with a smart, beautiful girl, who he knew perfectly well wasn't shy, and they had absolutely nothing to talk about.
"All right," Zhane said, standing up. Astronema did the same immediately, eyeing him suspiciously. "If we don't have anything to talk about, we'll just have to go somewhere where we don't have to talk."
"Where?" Astronema asked, doubtfully.
"To see a movie. And then," he added, holding out his hand "we can talk about the movie."
Astronema looked at him as if he had just suggested that they paint themselves orange and go jump in a lake. He grinned, keeping his hand out.
"Fine," Astronema said, walking past him towards the door.
Zhane looked after her. Well, it was something. He was going to make this work.
