Serving up Waffles

I'm considering skipping Goth Prom. One reason is pragmatic, the other emotional. My final is due on Wednesday. Before then I have to write an introduction and afterword for my portfolio (I finished revisions tonight!) and also finish writing my oral presentation. Going out until the wee hours Monday and recovering from it on Tuesday are not wise ways to prepare for my final. Emotionally, I don't want to go alone. Yes, I know I'll run into dozens of people I know; that's not the same. The best time I had at a Goth Prom was when I went with a real date. The other times I went ranged from being merely tolerable to awful. I'll see if I'm up to it by Monday evening.

Saturday was the first day I was able to spend doing work around the house. As luck would have it, my lawnmower broke just as I started mowing my lawn. Its handle broke off at the pivot point. I finished mowing by using a weed whacker. That was quicker than taking apart the mower to fix the handle. I'll do that next weekend. Then I pulled a couple bushels of weeds from my boulevard garden. After an organic bacon and Mexican Coke snack break, I put in several plants and flowers. Naturally my yard squirrels left them alone. Three times during the day I chased away a neighborhood cat that was stalking them. They owe me.

On Friday night I saw Walking Shadow's Transdimensional Couriers Union. It was a fantastic show that bends time and space. Then I went over to Bedlam to take promo shots for the upcoming fireshow Persephone: Reign of Fire. The subjects needed over an hour to get into costume, and they looked fabulous! We took the shots up on Bedlam's patio, drawing the attention of everyone up there. (Rah used her fire fan.)

The nursery is slowing down already. This week we had only 28 squirrels. (There are around 60 of them in the big outdoor cages.) My midday shift was done in about 2 hours, the night shift was done in just over an hour. I wonder if the second wave of squirrels will come in earlier this year. Usually they hit right around Fringe time.

Chris Kidder & Commedia Beauregard had a garage sale this past weekend. I picked up 3 floor-standing photo lamps, a tiara, and set pieces from the play Rossum's Universal Robots. The set pieces are large green glass pyramids with lights inside. They'll make excellent decor for my reading nook.
