Friday turned out to be a snow day, which meant that the 38 photos I had ordered for Sunday's exhibition were trapped in the mailroom at St. Kate's. I didn't want to shell out big bucks to have them all reprinted, so I selected my 8 favorites and had them printed at Target. They turned out very nicely. I picked up my original order today. I think I'll be giving lots of people pictures as gifts this year.
Morgan and I made it out to Rosy Simas' dance performance on Thursday night. After leaving St. Kate's, I drove to the Mall of America to pick her up. Traffic moved slowly and steadily even with one of the lanes of 494 unusable because of snow buildup. We hung out at the mall for a while and called the box office when it opened to make sure the show was still happening. We decided to leave at 6 even though the show was at 8. The drive between the mall and NE Minneapolis went well, and we arrived at the theater around 6:30. The theater wasn't even open, so we walked over to the 331 Club and grabbed a quick bite. The service there was exceedingly friendly and the food was rather good. The dance show, "Have Gun Will Shoot" was an anti-war piece set to music by Nine Inch Nails. There were recurring militaristic images throughout the performance along with glimmers of hope. A couple sections in the dance ran a bit long, but that's fairly common in the dance world. Overall, I enjoyed the show. I dropped off Morgan at the light rail downtown (per her suggestion) and headed home. The ride was fine, and I was even able to navigate through my alley and into my garage.
I woke up early on Friday in case it wasn't a snow day. I called St. Kate's around 6:30 and heard the message. I immediately went back to bed and slept in until 2pm. After a leisurely lunch, I went outside and dug out. Shoveling usually takes me 15-20 minutes. Friday it took 90. I was glad that I shoveled behind my garage when I got home Thursday night. That saved some time. I spent Friday evening at home watching movies. I watched Undertaking Betty, which featured Christopher Walken (the reason I ordered the movie in the first place) and Factotum. The former needed more Walken. The movie was pretty funny though. One of my favorite Walken quotes from it is "The root word of 'funeral' is 'fun'!"
Basketball seasons are officially over! I now have my Tuesdays, Wednesdays and Saturdays back. I worked the final 6 games of the Maplewood league on Saturday. Two of the games were very exciting. One game ended with a last-second winning basket by one of the shortest kids on the team.
In the evening, I went to the MN Rollergirls match with my friend Kami. Lucas was supposed to go to, but when I went to pick him up, nobody was home. He must have forgotten, even though we had been planning this for about a month and I reminded him about it last Sunday. Sixteen year-olds are like that. Anyway, we found seats in the balcony which had a clear view of the track. It was fun to see all the skaters at once and watch their strategies. During halftime, we went out into the lobby. I couldn't walk 10' before running into people I knew! I saw
lucifuge,
tin_lizzy, Brian Sostek & Megan McClellan, Tom Cassidy, Paul Cantrell and Zoe, and while I was seated, a choreographer I didn't know but who knew me came up and asked if I had any pictures of the piece she choreographed for Block E last semester. (I did.) What's more, I knew a couple of the skaters! I had met them at the Chatterbox during karaoke. What's especially funny about running into so many of my friends was that many of them had never gone to the Rollergirls before either although
lucifuge is a die-hard fan and
tin_lizzy is a skater for the North Star Rollergirls.
Sunday was
3 Dances' 6th birthday party. This year it was a family-friendly show. I set up my pictures and settled in to watch the entertainment. My Pet Rat, a kids' jazz band, opened the show. Other performances included story time by Dr. Kimberly von Foofen, dances by students of Suzanne Wiltgen, dances by 3 Dances, and poetry by Haley Lasche. Most of 3 Dances pieces were very butt-centric, which makes sense since it was a family-friendly show and kids find butts funny (as do many adults.) It was strange to attend a 3 Dances party that had no drunken debauchery.

The Everything Test
There are many different types of tests on the internet today. Personality tests, purity tests, stereotype tests, political tests. But now, there is one test to rule them all.
Traditionally, online tests would ask certain questions about your musical tastes or clothing for a stereotype, your experiences for a purity test, or deep questions for a personality test. We're turning that upside down - all the questions affect all the results, and we've got some innovative results too!
