Emily and I have made it a point to see most of the Oscar films this year.
Yes, I know the ceremony starts in an hour... but I'm going to quickly post my predictions:
Actor in a leading role:
MICKEY ROURKE - The Wrestler
(I didn't see it, unfortunately, but the buzz about Rourke is crazy.)
Actress in a leading role:
KATE WINSLET - The Reader
Actor in a supporting role:
HEATH LEDGER - The Dark Knight
(I mean, he basically HAS to win...)
Actress in a supporting role:
TARAJI P. HENSON - The Curious Case of Benjamin Button
Animated feature film:
WALL-E
(what a great film. see it.)
Directing:
DANNY BOYLE - Slumdog Millionaire
(The direction in this film is magnificent, particularly the opening sequence and the train scenes.)
Writing (adapted screenplay):
DOUBT
(This category is tough.)
Writing (original screenplay):
IN BRUGES
(While I didn't particularly like this film, the dialogue was witty and clever.)
AND....
Best Picture:
SLUMDOG MILLIONAIRE
(I absolutely loved this film. The main actor, Dev Patel, got his start on the show Skins. Ben and I loved watching this show while I lived in Wales.)
Because I'm running out of time, I won't post the other categories. Except I'll give Visual Effects to Dark Knight, Makeup to Benjamin Button, and Score to Slumdog.
Yay! I'm excited to watch them!
