The adventures of a semi lurker a.k.a the Rewatch (1.16 - 1.22)

Mar 10, 2009 20:06

I am back. So I leave for a break and what do you all do? Fangirl all over that Dexter guy, and I know whose fault that is.
*withdrawing the Fangirls order as we speak*

Remember him? Gawd I miss the show.

I am a lurker at heart with delurking tendencies, because of my love for Prison Break, and the time-out was good for me. The announcement that there was not going to be a S5 was the last straw but it was more the oh-this-show-is-so-over vibe I picked up this whole season that made me crawl back under my lurking rock. I felt a bit ridiculous with my optimistic I-am-still-loving-this-shit postings and comments and I am normally not a person that gives in to peer pressure but whenever I went online there was so much complaining and disappointment that, I needed to step back because that was not how I felt. For me S4 is up there with S2, which I also loved. S1 is perfection and that had also to do with the fact that it was new, the magical location, the hype, the new faces, ect but at the time there was a lot of moaning going on as well.

TV shows get hyped and the press is all over it till the next thing comes along. Shows that were considered amazing in the last years like Heroes and Ugly Betty are considered passe now and struggling in the ratings as well and even critically acclaimed shows like Friday Night Lights (loves that show) are in danger of not being picked up again. So I guess it is a natural thing but it is hard when you are still loving a show.
Prison Break has many great actors and characters and I think that is what makes it special but unfortunately a big part of the fandom is involved in some kind of a pissing contest between fans of certain characters/ actors. Some hysterical overemo MiSa fans (who are annoying as hell and IMO basically ruining it for the more sane ones like we are LOL) and the (first Mahone and now Gretchen) trolls especially. Any normal and sane person who tries to get into that conversation (Spoiler TV anyone?), I bow to you. This fandom use to be a very buzzing, eloquent bunch of people with lot of intelligent conversations and knowledge about fandom stuff, but no more.
Except for LJ of course. *pets it*
I know I am obsessed DUH and I know why and I consider it harmless because at the same time I think/ hope I am having a good sense of perspective on the whole thing and I 'hang out' with other fangirls who are the same. The show is the ultimate escapism out of my busy and often stressful RL and together with the online stuff surrounding it, it became my happy place. So it is going to be hard when that is gone, I know that. Like many others I can find a lot of things wrong with the show but Michael's story still stands for me and his scenes with Sara are my favourite ones and are done with so much love, talent and input from the actors, that however short, it is always spot on. I think one of the big tragedies in this show is that it is very plot oriented so that leaves hardly room for extensive dialogue hawt wall sex and we have two leads who would be very good at that. Having said all that, I am very happy with the way the relationship between Michael and Sara has been portrayed in their usual less-is-more style
I decided to continue my rewatch and I do it because I like to go back while waiting for the last stretch and I want to enjoy the end with you guys and I consider it a bonus if my ramblings just lifts up just one person. At the end of this week it will be the last day of shooting *tearing up* so maybe we will get some interviews or a wrap party after that. Please don't talk spoilers in the comments and lets proceed

By the time Brothers Keeper aired in the US, I discovered Prison Break in Moland but I was so impatient, infatuated and sucked into the online fandom that I asked a friend to dl it for me (never done that before) and I remember watching all episodes of Season 1 in a weekend marathon, three years ago and I have never been the same since. LOL I couldn't wait to get on my computer and read everything that there was to read about the show and I spend a looooot of time backreading TWoP and that also helped me get through the first hiatus. LOL

The fact that Michael helped Linc also out of guilt in stead of only love disappointed a lot of fans. I love arrogant, snarky Michael and I thought it was more realistic that way but I still cannot get over the fact that they put those dorky muffs on him. He looked hawt though; it is a miracle. LOL
After Sara turned out to be a junkie she went from victim to selfrighteous by the haters on TWoP *headdesk* I thought she was amazing and I was glad that we got some backstory and again she proved to be a great character and actress.

I loved the 'Red Lobster scene' with Bellick and we saw him vulnerable for the first time and Wade did such a good job at making himself the pathetic man that he was.
Sucre is love, even when he robs a liquor store. *G*
Linc was great as well and it was great to see the big difference in the brothers lives at that point. They are much more equal now.
The T Bag/ mrs. Hollander spitting conversation was an outstanding scene and the actress was another gem but later on in the show that scene was used so many times in flashbacks that it lost its strenght for me.
I never cared for Zzzzz note's story. Rockmond is a good actor but his story bored me to death.
I liked the scene between Vee and Michael and I liked it even more after I found out that Went had vetoed that scene to go any further (bedroom) he tought Michael would never do that. Poor Robin. *evil laughter*
The 'Wall Of Weird' is such an iconic feature from Prison Break now and I especially like this shot from above. In the DVD commentaries the director of this ep cracked me up by freaking out that the (cardboard??) wall moved. LOL

The whole look of that episode is just spectacular. The light, colours, locations and the clothes. I love Michael in a suit and the way he walks is totally different. *flails*
The DVD and TWoP comments on Went's performance in Brothers Keeper were raving, especially his last scene. Not just a pretty face!!!! The way his face slowly changes from fear into determination is just so powerful and subtle at the same time.

Also in the DVD comments the BK director said that Wentworth has such command of his body, and I think he is right because that is what makes him attractive, the fact that he is shy and humble but appears to be very comfortable in his own skin is a lethal combination.

In April 2006 there were a lot of great posters on TWoP; great analysers, intelligent, upbeat, positive and with a snarky sense of humour. I used to love their comments. Even the swooning was done with such insight. Some well known Wentfans became so bitter later. *shakes head*

Tweener and Advocado *shudders*.
On another sad note, the actor who played Advocado, Daniel E. Allar died a couple of weeks ago.
The Muensch's Carpets joke was amazing. LOL for pulling that off *hates Fox for being so hypocritical and censorship happy* and I so love that the stupid conservative FOX censors didn't pic that up. Go ahead; google Munch Carpet LOL

LJ had to go into the well with a very dead and no doubt smelly Quinn at the bottom. OMG!!!!
In J Cat IMO both Linc/Dom and Michael/Went were amazing. Great connection between the brothers even if they were not in the same room.
Those small Sara and Katie scenes throughout S1 were lovely and I hope we will see her again somehow.
In PB it is always so vague what is real and what not and so was 'crazy Michael' but I still think it was a little of both.
Looks like you've got a real beefer on your hands by Bellick about the giant panties Sucre used to deceive them is one of the funniest lines from PB and the way Bellick said it is just perfect.
Bitchy Brinker company women was another great casting job and I loved her bitch fight with Caroline.
LJ going after Owen was stupid but understandable and I still wonder if Paul was really beef jerky man Owen? Maybe we will ever find out?
Haywire was back and those scenes with Michael were so great on so many levels. Michael's finger down his throat, however. Just no!!!
The card game was hilarious and T Bag was ruling again.
The sett up of Geary was so satisfying and Bellick is so great all smug about that.
The returning of the watch to Westmoreland was very a moving scene I always love those two acting together.
Linc had one of his many accidents and there was dad again, saving his ass.
I regret that they didn't use Aldo more and better (it seemed rushed and even more so in S2). I love Tony Dennisson from way way back when he was in Crime Story and I am a big Closer fan and the irony is that if that show was not such a big success he would probably stayed on PB longer. I thought the casting of him was spot on with the right combination of the roughness and masculinity from Linc and the handsomeness from Michael.
PB seems to have an ongoing problem with keeping people because they were attached to other project and that IMO influenced the storylines a lot.
Sucre and Michael's friendship was getting stronger and the hug when Sucre came out of the SHU was heartwarming.
Speaking of hugs; I also love the fact that Abruzzi really seems to like Micheal and was also eager to hug him when he returned. The hair was appalling though, he clearly did that himself. LOL
The fact that Michael decided to take Tweener with him was stupid but to him he was just a kid in danger and it proved that he didn't lose his humanity.
Sara's struggle to make the right decision and to keep sober, the talk with her dad that opened her eyes even more, and her walk at the lake and at the end leaving the door open (a decision that would change her live forever) was so emotional but SWC was just amazing as ever. Her OD was just a very sad end to S1.

The last scenes with Henry Pope were heartbreaking as well. Next to Sarah IMO Went and Stacy had the greatest chemistry. Again I so hope to see him also.
I loved that they used Teardrops from Massive Attack in Tonight. I adore that song and I love it when my two biggest passions TV/Movies and music come together.
Westmoreland's death was so very very sad but, and this is a recurring theme for me, as long as it is not Michael, Sara, Linc or Sucre I am fine. *shallow*

I was a bit sad that they were leaving Joliet, because I loved that place, but also excited because of the possibilities once on the outside.

Vee was just plain stupid as always and in over her head again!!!
The ending was great. The escapees missed the plane and so we had our first frustrating very long hiatus.

WEM in a radio interview with Z100’s Z Morning Zoo 17/4/2006

Q: Well, I wanted to ask you because I’ve been following the show, you know, really religiously since it started. And I don’t know what I’m feeling about you and Sara. You know, you guys are getting a little too close but, do you think Michael is falling in love with her or do you think he’s just using her to help him get out?
WM: I think it’s a little bit of both and that kind of complicated tension between them is one of my favorite parts of the show because their relationship is moving to the next level, specifically, in the next couple of episodes.
Q: Oh, are you going to throw her down and take advantage?
Everyone chuckles.
WM: But you’ll have to tune in. But at the same time, he does need her to help him with the escape. So it’s that push-pull, between using someone that he loves and knowing he shouldn’t.

After the trauma of Linc's near execution IMO a lot changed. Sara broke her own back-off rule because she slowly began to see the devastating circumstances the brothers were in (and IMO she couldn't resist her feelings for Michael) but in typical Sara fashion she wants to know what is going on and after the burn she confronts Pope. She thinks she is protecting Michael and puts his plan in danger but he takes full advantage of that setback again. The look they gave each other in Popes office (Went hair and scruff ZOMG) was just sizzling and he knew that he was in trouble and she thought that she was doing the right thing. When she later was called to his cell because he has harmed himself I so felt for her and again that scene is just done brilliantly. Her devastation and him putting his head on her knee. A lot of blurring of lines again, for both of them.

I love this scene and he looks so incredible yummy when wounded LOL and can I just say that I love Sara so much. The look on her face is just so heartbreaking. The ashtray scene was adorable and later on that little item of love was on eBay ( big thanks to spoiled_andrea) and we saw that it had an S on it.

*loves him* What was wrong with the cameraman for not catching that? *kicks him*

For many of us 'The Kiss' was the highpoint of season 1 and I remember the first time I saw this leaked version on You Tube and it was magical and I couldn't stop playing it. I found this just recently again and it made me so happy and nostalgic (it doesn't take much, officiously LOL

I love everything about it; the fact that he just dives in, the sound he makes, and that he goes in deeper LOL, her surprise and blush, his vuneralbility, her stroking his face and neck *fans self*, his voice cracking, her kissing his hands, him pulling her hair back and OMG the way he looks at her and she looks at him, her I-want-to-but-I-can't and yet she is not rejecting him, it is all just perfect. I have seen that scene soooooooooo many times and it still makes me flail.
The second scene in the jard is just as wonderful. I love that he is desperate about the whole escape thing but the minute he sees her you can see that she is totally distracting him again till Sucre brings him back to reality. I think 'The Kiss' was a very defining moment for him that he couldn't really deny anymore that he really liked her.

The third scene is one of my personal fav M/S scenes of all time because first of all the acting is just outstanding by both of them and I love them having sort of a fight. There are so many things going on at ones and they are both so great in showing us that in their usual understated perfection. It is really seldom to see such a great acting match. *bows to both of them* On Michael's face there are so many emotions going on; anger, guilt, embarrassment, devastation, fear but also sadness and Sara is just heaven as the very angry but at the same time in control person that she is. The best thing however is that they both know what is going on from the moment she walks in.

The goodbye scene is again outstanding acting and I remember that I felt so sad that this was the last scene between them and that this was it for that season. Complicated stuff but he takes a huge change in trusting her and he also doesn't want to lose her but he thinks he is going to anyway at that stage. I love that he is honest and I hate that he puts his hand on her arm and the camera doesn't show it.
*waves to Scribblekitten*

There was a lot of speculation on TWoP that Michael would leave something like origami in her office awwww and I remember now the fear during the first hiatus in 2006, that they were going to kill Sara and that we heard nothing for weeks until she was spotted on set. Even then they like to torture us and it wouldn't be the last time.

About 'The Kiss'

In this Carson Daly interview SWC is watching 'The Kiss'. Just look at her face.
"You are not fooling anyone girl"!!

This interview was done onset and it is endearing how embarrassed they both are talking about 'The Kiss and like in S2 they are a little bit defencive about it all. Also there is a little outtake scene from Tonight and it is amazing that they are both seem to be cracking up and have to do such an emotional scene later on.

This is hilarious and at the time I fell of my chair laughing, reading this but was also fascinated by it LOL. I am sure many of you knew Bichito a very enthusiastic fangirl who dedicated a lot of time analysing 'The Kiss' and it is weird and great at the same time and she was very good at it. She has an eye for detail and she uses sound, editing and head positions to prove her point that that there were many takes and that made her very happy. She did the same with the 'train kiss' so I will dig that up later. Fun times!!!

I am diving into S2 now and I am one of those who thought S2 was great as well though didn't like Zzzz note, the horny housewife in Utah and T Bag's story. They were all dragged out to long.

Although I have been lurking I have read all your stories; the happy - and the sad ones and I hope you are all OK and like me looking forward to the last part of this journey.
