“Yes, my lady.” She wasn’t frantic, perfectly cool and in control on the surface as ever. But Adonis knew better. This was something personal that she longed to do herself but couldn’t leave the Moon Princess to. She would always choose duty over love, a very unVenusian idea. “I will.”
“Bring back his position and number of forces.”
“Yes, my lady.”
“Go, Adonis.”
She knew his name, the name of a minor foot soldier of the regiments sent to her to fight the Dark Kingdom. He knew innately that if he left, he would never see her again. He longed to say “I love you”, just so she would know. His love was freely given with no expectation of anything in return.
He nodded and left. It would make him feel better but would only hurt her.
Adonis was small and swift, no Mercurian but he ran through servants’ corridors and rubble, avoided the sound of battle, all towards where Lord Kunzite should have been stationed. The closer he got the more of Metallia’s monstrosities there were. He didn’t stop to fight them, only avoided them.
There, in the center of it all, was Lord Kunzite, standing alone and all but untouched by the carnage except the dark magic glowing around his hands. Fighting fire with fire then. He threw himself down to one knee before him. “My lord, I bring word from Princess Venus.”
Kunzite touched his head and it was cold, freezing cold, then tossed him aside effortlessly. He was too cold to be surprised, the dark energy racing through him stopping up his emotions, numbing him to not even feel his broken spine.
The dark energy rushed over him and he knew he was dying and his soul would be trapped even beyond this life by this dark power. What were we doing, trying to fight this? Adonis tried to hold on but felt himself drifting away. Perhaps if he held onto just one thing, that which was most important.
I love her. May we meet again in the next life, for I will never forget her and I love her. I’m sorry. Adonis died.
