one-sided geekery

A side-story set shortly before the main story in my spy AU, Born into the Job.

'Verse: Naruto
Claim: general series
Characters/Pairing: Temari, Kankurou, mention of Yondaime

“This is fabulous. You knew about this all these years and you never told me?! How do they compensate for the time it takes relativistic particles to get from one end of the chip to the other?”

Temari had never thought of the speed of light as slow. “I have no idea.” She had expected him to be mad and confused and scared longer. “You’re adapting well.”

“That my family was connected to some huge government conspiracy spy network? Shut up. I’m busy. Get my wire connectors. I can’t figure out how this works with just my eyes.”

Habit would have had her snap “Get your own damn wires”, but honestly boss had assigned her to doing whatever she needed to get Kankurou to adjust to the life of the missing. She said it anyway.

“You’d get the wrong one anyway. Toss me my bag.” She did. “Can’t believe you were always going on about your weird shit when you were home when you had this. Ooh, does that have a Leighborgh-Jordan chip? I always wanted to get around to trying hooking one of those up in a battle robot, not as the primary, but it’s always used in such passive systems. If you had a fast enough processor…”

As someone who had had years of training, she had been skeptical that her brother could be something other than the useless baby she still remembered him as. She’d had tech-geeks as backup before and saw no difference within five minutes.

Damn, she’d have to tell boss. Obnoxious man when he was, usually, right.
