I am just now coming into the clear after a gnarly concussion/closed head injury. It's been a little over 6 weeks and I am just this week able to stay awake ALL DAY. Seriously.
I was told I did an endo on my bike while going downhill at 25 MPH (bike computer). I don't remember the fall at all and barely remember hospital stay or the first 2 weeks I was home. Poor Bryan. He was about 10 feet ahead of me and heard me crash. I knocked myself out and was laying face up, my bike sort of on top of me and one of my arms still pinned under me. I shattered my helmet, which is a pretty good indicator of how hard I hit. That and my landing arm. THAT shit is STILL bruised. I didn't break anything, though. I have good muscles!
They were giving me 3 oxycodones with a 2 mg morphine push in the hospital for pain. They sent me home with 40 oxys. I hate pain meds. I really, REALLY do. I ended up using 10 of them and the rest went in the toilet.
At first I was all, okay I'll be fine. I tried to stay awake like a normal person. I ended up with searing headaches that made me want to die. Also? Vertigo and the subsequent nausea. Oh and photo sensitivity. So then I just let myself sleep and boy did I. 20 hours a day, like a lion. I took Tylenol stacked with Ibuprofen (2 and 3, respectively) the doc told me that has the same strength as a vicodin only without the narcotics so I was comfortable with that. My liver prolly has a differing opinion.
Anyway! You'd think that I would stop riding bikes, what with the breaking of my collarbone the first year, the crazy slashy meth guy the second year and now this. But no. I have a NEW bike and am going for a ride today when Bryan gets home from work.
Riding bikes with my husband makes me happy!
You only get to live(in this body, anyway) once!
Oh and we don't work at a laundromat anymore. It kept a roof over our heads and we're grateful for that, but Bryan having a job that uses his degree and skill set is awesome.
