I am not down with Christmas this year. There has been no baking or making of anything. We live a block away from Peacock Lane which has a long legacy of every house on the block being decorated with lights. It's a Portland tradition. So every day, from the time it gets dark (about 5:30) until 10 when they turn the lights out, for the two weeks before the 25th there's a perpetual parade of cars lined up around my block to the one way entrance of Peacock Ln. Say that last sentence out loud in only one breath and you'll kinda get an idea of how exhausting it is. We can't get out of our parking lot, because the Christmas Cheer of the people in the cars in line to see the one street of houses lit up with Christmas lights is extraordinarily impolite.
I'm kind of glad I don't have the expendable income to buy presents this year. I do not miss the whole retail parking lot spot blocking or the snatch and grab I saw it first thing that happens inside sometimes.
Last night we decided to go to Goodwill and buy each other gifts. I chose a ceramic giraffe for myself and Bryan found a Jack and Jackie Kennedy commemorative plate. The Giraffe looks awesome in my kitchen shrine. The plate is some genuine 1960's collector find apparently. It looks awesome in our other shrine.
Then we decided to ride our bikes. On the longest night of the year under the full moon.
