So I officially hate USB drives. You know those little thumb-sized things you can save files onto??? Well I have had mine for a little over a year and it has been a lifesaver. I take it everywhere and work on my papers in the library and can bring them back to my dorm and finish them up on my laptop. So I was saving my research project for the zoo on it. I have to do a project as part of the internship and I have to do a research project for my professor if I want college credit so I combined them and am doing just one research project. I decided to do it on mixed species exhibits which is when there are several species of animals living in one exhibit. We have 3 just in the temperate area of the small animal building I work in so I thought it was a good choice. So yeah, I had all my info saved on my USB drive and I took it to the zoo and was given the afternoon to work on my project on Sunday. So I used the USB drive. Last night I decided to do a little more note-taking so I pull out the USB drive and plug it in. Immediately little error signs start popping up. Being as dumb as I am I choose to ignore them and just go on doing my project. I work for about 20 minutes, writing about 2 paragraphs of info and all of sudden an error message comes up saying it had to close down my program and all unsaved info would be lost. I was like crap. Well I didn't know how crappy it was at the time. I load up Microsoft Word again and try to open up the file but when I go to load up the files on my USB drive it isn't there. My computer wasn't reading it. So I try a couple more times, restart and try and nothing. I try on my cousin's computer. Nothing. I call a couple people who know their computers. They suggest to take it to the zoo computer and try. I do. Nothing!!!!!! So I go to Best Buy after work and NOTHING. The guy informs me it died. By now I had already figured this out of course but the shock still takes a while to settle in. My entire research project up to now was lost. I had to start all over again. #@$^#$&^$#&@$%$@*&(&^%@#!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!! No, seriously %$#$&!!! I ask and the guy says these USB drive things like never break. He'd had his for like 3 years and it had been through the wash and everything. Why mine then!?!?

To be quite honest, this is the first time I have ever been glad that I procrastinated on anything. I mean, I had maybe 5 pages of notes that I lost, but it could have been a ton more. So I bought another USB drive but I do hate it right now. I don't like any of them b/c its obvious they don't like me.

So that was really sucky but I tried not to let it ruin my day. Eating Wild Berry Skittles improves things. Also today Shane the reptile keeper let me help with the reptile meet-a-keeper which was amazing. I got to hold the Red-Tailed Boa!!! He is really cool, although heavy. I would guess he weighs like 15-20 pounds, so my arms got pretty tired after a while. Shane and Amanda also took out the 135 pound reticulated boa and let her slither around in the grass of the kangaroo exhibit. The roos were hiding in the trees like the entire time, lol. Don't blame them, Peta is a very scary snake. Her head is like twice the size of my fist. It was very fun overall. Other than that it was a normal day. I had the afternoon to work on my project so I tried to re-find all the website addresses I had saved and now lost. I talked to a keeper about her mixed species exhibit. It was a good day, considering.

So here are some new pictures including the pictures of me with the boa and python. The pictures are tons better than the other ones because I have been borrowing the neighbor's camera. He might sell it to me and I'm really excited b/c it takes extremely high quality pictures! Just look at them:

Tisho, my favorite little black-footed cat!

Farley, the scarlet macaw. I swear, he loves me. When I was taking these pictures he kept crawling closer and closer to me on the branch and saying "pretty boy" and "hello". Hehe.

Red Panda picture I took while walking around the zoo.

Don't worry, the rabbit was already dead. But I fed the snake this rabbit!!! Jeff inserted the rabbit in these big silver tongs and I held the tongs and thrust it at the snake and he just darted his body around the rabbit in like 2 seconds and conscricted it. It was awesome! Its a black pine snake.

This is Ellie the baby hyrax!! Farah, our hyrax in Temperate, had four babies in early July and they decied to pull Ellie and her brother Timbo and hand-raise them. They are so fun to play with!! They don't bite at all and they run all over you make little squeaky noises. :D

Me holding Timbo. The picture is extremely crooked, sorry. Amanda is not a very good photographer, lol.

Me holding the Red-Tailed Boa. Isn't he beautiful??

Me and Peta, a 135 pound Reticulated Python. If you look in the very upper right-hand corner of the tub you can see her head.

Two of the adorable Wied's Marmosets that I work with.
