Early mornings in late fall, winter, and early spring all work very well as sleep aids: cold and dark, usually wet as well. Directions: Get out of bed, step outside for 30 seconds (or as long as you can stand it), climb back into still-warm bed. Instant pass back to dreamland.
Honestly, Saturday mornings have gotten easier for me, even on days like this where it's cold, rainy, and pitch dark the entire drive in. I'm one of those lucky people that wake up pretty quickly (and without the aid of coffee!*), so once I manage to get conscious, it's just a matter of dressing quickly so I'm not cold. And getting down a real breakfast...my system doesn't like eating so early!
*A few months ago, I went on a trip to Ikea with Jess, Ari, and Kristen. It was fairly early--9ish or so--and they're all Starbucks addicts, so we stopped at the UConn location to get some drinks. They all got coffee (2 of them got espresso), I got a Vivanno: milk, chocolate, whole banana, protein powder. Delicious, nutritious, nice morning treat. Ari looked at it, and said "What's that?"
"A Vivanno."
"It's coffee?"
"No. I don't like coffee."
o.O "But...what do you drink in the morning?"
"Milk or juice..."
o.O "But...how do you wake up?"
"I...just...do?"
o.O
I can't describe the confused look on his face. It was priceless. And adorable.
So anyway.
This past week was...
Last Saturday was JAK's Halloween party*, which was lots of fun. However, I was a bit of a silly and barely had anything to eat. Then Ryan was sick from Saturday night until, oh, Tuesday. Sunday was pretty awful, with a nice respite in the middle--I got 3 hours of sleep (total, not all at once), didn't eat for over 12 hours, spent most of the morning and early afternoon with Mom, then played D&D in silence with sick Ryan and distracted Justin. Monday, we were both still recovering (a rare 8 hours of sleep didn't help, somehow), and by Tuesday I was kinda burnt. So no classes that day.
In Reporting & Writing News Stories, we have three presentations: a solo where we present "This week in the news," a paired one where we talk about some journalism celebrity, and another solo where we present a story idea for next semester's class to cover for the newspaper. I thought that Thursday was my news presentation, and my paired presentation on Dear Abby was in November. Then I got an e-mail on Tuesday from my partner--turns out I got the dates mixed up, and we had the group presentation in two days. O.O Fortunately, she had put everything together, and didn't care that I had completely forgotten about it. She just wanted to get it over with. Considering that I first saw and read the whole thing a half an hour before class, we actually did really well! :D
That was my excitement for the week: sick boyfriend, surprise presentation. Oh, and taking my car in to the garage and driving Ryan's for two days, but that was nothing special. Just a check-up for my Ruby, and convincing Camy (Ryan's Toyota Camry) that I wasn't trying to steal her man.
*I went to the costume party as a Grammar Nazi: suit, ruler, trio of red pens, Strunk & White in one pocket, and a red armband with a black "G" on it. :D Some people needed an explanation, some just needed me to pose with the ruler & book and got it. Also attending the party were a Ghostbuster, Drinkin' Lincoln, an escaped inmate, a priest, and Ari in drag (I should mention that he's 6'3", built like a stick, and was wearing a size 42D bra).
It's been a slow week over at
RuLaReJo, due to the fatigue and overall craptastic feeling. Just the two posts:
a horoscope freaking me out over career paths, and
the second installation of my opinion on how to fix the education system. I hope to finish and post the third (and final)(?) installation this week, along with rants on honesty, calories, and my generation's need for earnest.
This next week will also include a day off for the election (which I foolishly told Joanne about instead of just clutching to it like a normal human being), and the Meet The Presidents and Deans session I'll be covering for my journalism class.
That's all for now. I may post more song lyrics I'm currently in love with later on. :D
