Birthays and Classes. I seem to enjoy writing my thoughts out here. Enjoy!

First off, belated Happy Birthday to Lilac, and a Happy Birthday to Myorp! :D I've gotten bad about birthdays, sorry! Hope it is/was a good one!

I'm thinking about taking classes again. Poked around UConn's site, but not sure about them. First off, I've heard from current and recent students that the students are just numbers to the school itself, so problems are hard to solve, answers are hard to get, etc. Second, they didn't have any due dates for applications, which I've no doubt passed. Third, the classes I'd LOVE to take (Copyediting I, Publishing, The English Language) all have pre-reqs or require you to be at least a junior. I could get to them, either via transfer of credits or taking the (boring) pre-reqs, but I have the feeling it'd be a lot of wading and paperwork and blah.

Then I went back to the site of my alma mater, MCC. Poking around revealed a couple of things. First, that I could get a Certificate in Electronic Publishing with little trouble--I have one of the 5 classes (Composition), and the rest look like they're either cake, fun, or fun cake (mmm, fun cake. I imagine sprinkles :D). In looking up the classes I'd need (and discovering the fun cakiness of them), I discovered that I'm only 3 or4 classes away from a Virtual Assistant Certificate (technically 3, except that one of them has a pre-req I don't have but could possibly get by). So, there's that, too. I've ended up with a list of 16 classes that I would love to take, need for a certificate, or would be a good idea:

[o] COM 201: Introduction to Public Relations [Meh, why not, most of it looks like Marketing for people.]
[o] COM 213: Electronic Publishing [Funnily enough, NOT a requirement for the Certificate. But would still be fun/informative).
[o] COM 222: Reporting & Writing News Stories [Electronic Publishing Certificate]
[o] DGA 111: Introduction to Computer Graphics [Electronic Publishing Certificate]
[o] DGA 212: Advanced Computer Graphics [Electronic Publishing Certificate]
[o] DGA 240: Web Page Design [Both a good idea, and possibly fun.]
[o] ENG 202: Technical Writing [More writing! Oh, and for Electronic Publishing Certificate]
[o] ENG 203: Grammar, Usage & Style [Could be like Advanced Composition, a big let-down, but worth a look at...GRAMMAR!!]
[o] GRA 151: Graphic Design I [Fun & for Electronic Publishing Certificate]
[o] BOT 219: Integrated Office [Fun & for Virtual Assistant Certificate]
[o] BOT 230: Microsoft Office Suite Applications [Pre-req for BOT 231; may be able to skip.]
[o] BOT 231: Advanced Microsoft Office Applications [Virtual Assistant Certificate]
[o] BOT 253: The Virtual Assistant [Take a wild guess.]
[o] BMK 217: Electronic Commerce [Would no doubt be very helpful with working with Dad to sell his music online.]
[o] BES 218: Entrepreneurship [Good idea for a wannabe freelancer/small business owner.]
[o] CSA 135: Spreadsheet Applications [I like playing with spreadsheets way more than any normal person should. This would be a fun course for me, depending on the teacher.]

Good news: Most of the classes are offered both in Fall and Spring, so I could feasibly have the Electronic Publishing Certificate by this time next year. Bad news: If I wanted to do both, that would undoubtedly lead me into Fall 2010, if not past it. The Plan is to be elsewhere by then, getting a Bachelor's while Ryan gets his Grad degree. He's insisting I could have a Bachelor's by then if I went to UConn or ECSU, but ehhh...sounds like a lot of hassle, and degrees that aren't exactly what I want. Seriously thinking about it, though.

Current plan: Continue to look into MCC, UConn, and ECSU up until Wednesday. Take the classes in D.C., including the one on Desktop Publishing, and see how I feel afterward. Go from there.

WHEEEEE I'm still hyped up from last night. Spent a food 5 hours hanging out with Catsy, Maria, Josh, and Nick (Macintosh), first at KFC (with Catsy, joined by Maria), then at Willi Brew (where we also ran into James, Jen Moore and Becca). Lots of eating, minimal but yummy drinking, lots of not-suitable-for-public conversation...GOD it was fun. Still riding the endorphins.

Time to start cleaning up after my 8-hour shift.
