THE MODERN POP MUSIC TURNING POINT

I should have Written down my prophecy earlier before it started coming true!!

I suggested quite vocally to everybody that mid way through last year would be the new rise of pop music. andthat the next year or 2 (maybe even to 2010) will have some of the very memorable and repeatable pop songs.

Now i'm sure that with ( Read more... )

Hmm, I think you raise a good point. I see a shift (at least in Australia) toward semi-retro rock-based music as the new middling point for the mainstream music "barometer" as people move away from/grow tired of rap/r'n'b or electronic based pop. The success of (watered down) "chicks with a guitar" music (think Sarah Blasko) and old school garage band revival acts like Jet, Coldplay and Wolfmother are testament to this new surge of interest in rock (in general).

Ive heard the new missy higgins song, I thought it wasn't very good.
Especially since they played a sarah blasko song right after, she is much better IMO

i always feel like a celebrity when you mention me! how special i am. oh, how i do love a good pop song. or a shit pop song. or a good shit pop song. =o)
now i'm listening to KT tunstall. i saw her on ellen, too. oh, christopher!
chick-with-a-guitar or chick-with-a-piano music has been on the rise in the naughties. back in the '90s you could tell a pop song because there weren't any instruments, but then avril lavigne came through and now even the poppiest, like hilary duff, have instruments. because rock is cool. see? rock is cool. and people are starting to appreciate older music more, like tom said, with garage bands and i don't mean the program you make music loops on. it makes things more difficult to define, as genres are all melding a lot more now, but it isn't necessarily a bad thing.
...i don't think i actually made any points there... can you tell i have an essay to write?

I agree. Pop music was in a bit of a rut (and it still probably is a bit) maybe its because we're in the prime generation for this decade but not much memorable music has come out of it.
