It was a nice day for golf, but not because it was sunny and warm. It was not quite cool - my sweater was enough to keep me warm even though we got drizzed and lightly rained on. We had the course to ourselves. True, we had to hurry because they close the gates at 5:30, but we made it by a good 15 minutes. The tees were all a bit short today and in odd spots - they may be trying to heal the tees for spring.

Little Miami, drizzle, pleasant, late afternoon

1: (320/4) drove the fairway a bit shy of the bunker, 9i went badly right, chipped the first L over, then chunked, then on for a 4' 1-putt.

2: (485/5) drive drifted right about 4y off the fairway, f stayed right, f found the tree near the 150y marker and bounced out into the fairway, approach with the 5i went right, p chipped just over then to the green for a 5' 2-putt.

3: (121/3) 9i fell 5y short of the green, chunked the L then to the green for a 2' 1-putt.

4: (345/4) drive pushed slightly right, nice 5i went a bit right for an easy G chip to a 6' 2-putt.

5: (304/4) nice long drive middle of the fairway, blew the 5i approach to the right just past the cart path (but a nice place to leave the bag for the next hole), G to the green for an 11' 2-putt.

6: (331/4) another long straight drive in the fw, followed by another 5i right but also short this time, G fell short and then greened it for another 11' 2-putt.

7: (191/3) f-wood fell short with a small slice, P-pitched over by about 2y, L chipped on for a 4' 1-putt.

8: (325/4) drive sliced right not quite to the vegetation, pushed the 5i right into the trees, took a penalty to take it out, f-wood rescue to chipping range where the G just got on for a 30' 3-putt.

9: (256/4) long drive pushed a little to just past the last pine trees on the right, G-chipped towards the green but was intercepted by the tree, chipped on for a 5' 2-putt.

best shot: drive on 5 or 6
worst shot: 1st hole lobs - just didn't get it
worst strategy: 8th hole treeline solution
consistent problems: pushing the irons, 5-8' putts
best I-meant-to-do-that shot: the drive on the 9th that went about 230-ish but to the right - just a bit left of where it went and assuming it didn't hit any trees it would have been VERY close to the green. It was supposed to go a lot straighter.

I felt pretty good about this game, with the following exceptions:
* For some reason, I was a bit frazzled at the start and it took two holes to settle down. The first drive was good, but I followed it with two bad shots that cost me par. On the second, the shots weren't as bad but still added up to a rather unpleasant total.
* I'm not yet happy with/used to the lob wedge. It's very easy to either chunk it or sweep right under the ball.
* I'm starting to like my gap wedge more, but it's very different from my other irons. I almost wish I had also gotten the G and S to go with the 565's
* the 8th is my next nemesis to conquer. I pushed and sliced the drive, but didn't hit it as hard so it stayed inbounds, but I still pushed the 5i so hard it went into the woods. I'm lucky I was able to track it and it was close enough to get out with one p. It's all in my head -- this hole is no harder than any other on the course and in fact is very much like the 4th. Grr...
