Today has been a good day. So far!
First off, I’ve been given a free holiday! Yes that’s right - a free holiday for two to either Paris/Normandy or the Black Forest region of Germany, with all accommodation and travel costs being fully paid by the company. All I would have to pay for are the excursions and they are usually pretty cheap. Here’s how it happened:
A couple of years ago my mother won a trip for two to Paris, but having a young kiddie she couldn’t really go on it so she gave the holiday to Luton and I, who proceeded to have a fantastic five days in Paris. It was similar to the offer above; accommodation and travel costs were free, we just paid about £200 for the excursions which wasn’t really all that bad considering.
But the trip was managed through a little off-shoot of this much larger company, and it was the larger company who was giving the little off-shoot the money for our accommodation/travel costs. Only the little off-shoot didn’t spend the money on that, they spent it on something else instead - apparently they did this rather a lot and now they’ve been caught out. So now the larger company is conducting an investigation into the whole mess, and for our co-operation in this matter (freely giving bank/cheque details, etc.) the larger company is giving us a semi-free holiday in return.
Yay!

Other than that then it’s been a pretty quiet day; I have my mother and brothers coming around this evening which may well be nice. Except for the fact that I have to feed them all and my brothers can put away a lot of food! They are here because my sister is being taken to the pantomime by our grandmother (I’m quite jealous actually - I’ve never really been to a proper pantomime myself), and rather than drive back to Cambridge and then straight back here again to pick her up, they thought they would invite themselves around. I’m surprised the elder brother wanted to come and visit though - although now I think about it maybe he’s just using it as an excuse to drive his new car around and to get free food. That sounds about right…
Oh, and to torture me about his stupid chocolate orange torte thing. Alright! I get that it was really really nice but since nobody thought to SAVE ME ANY despite promises to the contrary I wouldn’t know about that now would I? Stupid people…they haven’t shut up about it since Tuesday…“it was really nice you know…it had this nice layer of chocolate stuff…and the people in the kitchen screwed it up…but that only made it nicer…and it tasted orangey but wasn’t…and there was this chocolate thing going on…I can’t describe it…it was subtle and yet powerful all at the same time…but it was really really nice…you would have absolutely loved it I tell you! LOVED it!”
Yes well thank you for that but since the chances of my brother actually cooking for the family outside of work are less than none do you think you could stop torturing me with the beautiful chocolate torte?!
