Song That Never Was

Popular bands have remix contests sometimes. And usually, they're slightly boring since everyone already has a strong idea what the artist intended the song to sound like, and everything is heavily based on that or compared to that.

I missed it at the time, but in late 2009, Imogen Heap had a remix contest, but did it a little differently. She had been commissioned to write a song for a TV show and proceeded to write a song and record all the vocal tracks, but the song ended up not being needed and the musical portions were never recorded.

So, she just put up the raw vocal tracks with no hint as to what key or chord progressions or mood she had been intending for the song, and asked fans to remix it.

If you go to youtube and search on "imogen heap song that never was", you'll find a bunch of people's remixes. Each one is an entirely different song than the others. Many of them are really, really good.
