I figured that I'd respond to this one on your lj instead of flooding the comments over at lifeonmartha with completely non comm stuff. lol

I have the advantage of having grown up all over the place when it comes to slang...and languages. I can say 'hello' in 29 of them. I just happen to be used to mostly american slang because the bulk of my flist is from the states...although I can get away with a lot of Aussie/Kiwi stuff too because they're used to me.

And yes I am a Kiwi. From Christchurch in the South Island. I spent most of my childhood though in Aussie and then later Hawai'i. Auckland in winter isn't that bad. Auckland is subtropical and can be rather warm. The NZ weather you're discribing sounds more like Wellington and points south...though I know people who would argue with me there. teehee.

And what's wrong with Christmas in summer? lol I prefer it actually but then that's what I'm familiar with. Nothing like hitting the beach after opening up the pressies! Although Auckland would be preferable to Exmouth where I lived in Aussie for you. My last X-mas there was 45C lol people would be scraping you off the footpath with a spatula!

And Fresno is an actual city in the Central California valley, about halfway between San Francisco (where I live now) and Los Angeles...where I have lived before and loathed with a passion. And yeah they call SF 'the city' around here...or San Franfrisky if you're talking about the more deviant side of life in said town. ;) And if you think 'Fresno' is bad... It is a real place where people live. And now I'm rambling. lol

Nah, I'm getting pretty good at working out various local slang terms - my friends list is being added to almost weekly since I began branching out on LJ and being less paranoid :o) I have friends all over the place now.
You're a Kiwi? I'm going to Auckland next summer to visit one of my LJ friends there :oD Of course it'll be winter there, but NZ winter is apparently damp, grey and about 15 degrees C. That's a warm-but-rainy mid-spring day in Scotland. I'm just glad I'm not going for the NZ summer! *envisages sunburn and/or sunstroke within ten minutes of stepping off the plane* I've got the typical Scottish complexion, y'see - only more brownish-auburn than ginger :o) Pale, lotsa freckles, quick to burn. I'd die if I went to NZ at Christmas :o)

'Fresno' sounds like an abbreviation. Like Frisco. And I only know that those guys prefer it to be called 'The City' because of Eddie. Who, I see from your icons, you are a fan of :oD This is good.

And yeah, the jokes are funny :o) Much better than the DJ's, but then DJs have to be lame and cheesy, that's their job.

Probably a good idea. Welcome to my journal! You like the pretty stars? :o)

29?! Impressive. *thinks* I can say it in... about five. The one I'm most proud of is the Russian, because the others are fairly simple (French, Italian, Spanish, German) - I live with Russian speakers (though not for very much longer, hurrah!) and I know a grand total of seven words.

Nothing wrong with Christmas in summer - it's not like I would miss the snow :o) I just mean cos of the heat. Like you said - footpath, spatula. A hot day in Scotland is around 25-30 degrees. Over that would be pushing it, I'd be inside in a cool dark room with a fan and lots of water! :o)

*giggle* San Franfrisky... Oh, you live in SF? How's the fog? :o) And the taxis? Lots of snakes? ...Sorry, I'll stop :o)

Heh, Zzyzx. Thank you Wikipedia for providing a pronunciation guide. Reminds me of Jozxyqk.

I live just outside of SF...far enough inland that it is considered semi desert where I live. And SF is alright, the Castro District is a hoot and half! but the fog, she blows...especially to drive in!
