Oh, well. I made Treble Choir at region. No all-state for Kirsten. But, you know... i'm really not as disappointed as i thought i would be. I really hated the songs this year. They were REALLY bad. And, i was upset that i would have to actually DO treble choir at the Region Concert, because i really didn't want to be in the "pity" choir of region ( Read more... )

i'm SO happy to see the attitude you're taking on the whole all-state thing. as a person who was rather "involved" with that process through all of my high school years, i got so depressed at seeing people who based their talent simply on how they did in that one competition. you're right- it's not a great judge of talent. period. i mean, yeah, i made it but i've met so many completely OUTSTANDING singers who sometimes didn't even make region. it's about being in the right place at the right time and that's IT. and congrats on being mature enough and GOOD enough to see the difference.

congrats on treble, and don't worry about allstate. in cali at least, the criteria for all-state are kinda weird and not based so much on vocal ability as sight-reading etc. theres talented singers i know that just had a bad sight-reading day and weren't on all-state even though they shoudl've been. i'm still very proud of you!

And like our treble choir director said last year, everyone in mixed choir is either mopey because they almost made pre-area but didn't, or are really agressive because they want to beat everyone else who is moving on to pre-area. But treble choir is all about singing! And that's pretty beautiful. And it's SO true that all-state competition is a pretty flawed judge of vocal talent. So, yes, now all there is left to say is...YAY KIRSTEN! :)
