Aoi let a wide yawn as he pushed open the grey door to the practice room open. Inside, he was greeted with by Reita, Uruha and Ruki who too had the same sleepy looks as his. After greeting them with a short morning greeting, he went passed them to the small pantry and fixed himself a cup of black coffee. A scowl came to him as he grudgingly took a few small sips of the hot black liquid from the polystyrene cup. His morning moods weren’t the best as everyone knows. He would rather sleep in but his band leader just had to fix up a new timetable, pushing almost all of their band practice in the morning.
He went back to the main room, walking to one of his favorite spot in the room and pulled out a box of cancer sticks and a lighter from one of his jean’s pocket. With a cigarette in his left and his coffee in his right, he leaned against the windowsill as he let his eyes astray through the clear blue horizon, allowing himself to be fully taken into the morning sensation. It was almost half past nine when Kai finally entered the studio, apologizing for being awfully late between his heavy pants. All of them would have wanted to scold the drummer for being one hour late but Kai’s disarrayed condition got all of their mouth clamped shut.
“Kai-chan, what happened? You looked like you’re in a mess,” Uruha known being the honest and straight forward asked.
“I’m sorry. I guess I got too carried away with last night’s paper works,” Kai smiled as he scratched at the back of his head. “Once again, sorry for making you all wait!!,”
Aoi couldn’t help but to feel disgusted with the current smile Kai had on him for the past few months. It’s not those usual, honest, happy smiles which he knew. Aoi wasn’t sure if he was the only one thinking otherwise but he is restless with this. Kai had been the only one who kept almost all of his problems away from the band members yet, he mostly help others to sought out their problems. His secretiveness bugs Aoi to no end which up to a point where Aoi felt that he would not bothered to refrain himself from beating up the drummer like how he play his drums.
Practice went a bit horrible due to a few snapped strings and an offbeat issue. Ruki was the first to have his fuse blown. Aoi guessed he wasn’t the only one in the band who had raging issues as he watch Reita took leave with the fuming chibi from the studio. Uruha soon took leave for a smoke. Aoi was about to take his leave when his attention was distracted with the sudden sound of the cymbals dropping to the floor and a few hushed cursing from the drum’s area. He turned his view which was to be greeted with the sight of Kai on the floor rubbing his left knee. Probably the reason why the cymbals was hit to the floor.
“Oy, how could you get this careless? You wouldn’t want to get these things broken do you?” Aoi helped by picking up the cymbals and placing them back to the rightful place.
“Sorry, yeah.. I guess I have been quite reckless. Gomen ne,” Kai smiled weakly at the dark haired guitarist.
The sound of Kai’s phone ringing stopped Aoi from being able to talk any further with the drummer but it didn’t stop him from feeling worried towards Kai as he watch the drummer’s expression changed almost drastically while he kept his hushed dialog through the cell phone. Aoi had wanted to ask but as soon as Kai hung up the phone, he immediately left without a moment to lose and stated that their practiced ended early. A heavy sigh came from Aoi as he took out his cell phone telling the others about their practice.
He reached back at his apartment around 3 P.M. and being the lead composer, he got straight to his computer and started to edit a few incomplete songs that he had been working on for the past few days. As he was busy composing, he couldn’t stop himself from this overwhelming worries to Kai. Aoi couldn’t get the faintest idea why but his heart told him he should at least call up the brunette and ask if everything is alright. Aoi knitted his brow as he couldn’t get through the line for the umpteenth time…
“Don’t tell me he lost his phone again…,” Aoi grumbled angrily as he shut down his computer, grabbing one of his casual coats and left his house after locking the doors. As he got to the parking lot, he reminded himself to give Kai a full scolding if his guess about Kai’s phone was correct…
The journey to Kai’s apartment from Aoi’s place was only a 30 minute walk. Taking a drag of his cancer stick, Aoi allowed himself to cool off by taking his mind away from the thought of his sudden obligation to make sure Kai is alright. The dark haired man couldn’t help to feel grateful that he was born with a rational mind and was able to think rationally in most times when he was fully controlled with his rage. Which is why one of the reasons why he prefers walking rather than gone out driving when he was mad about something. Finally, Aoi find himself facing the front door to Kai’s apartment. He let out a short sigh and pressed the small button before taking a few steps back from the door waiting patiently.
A few moments had passed and still there is no answers. Aoi could feel his eyes twitched as he pressed the door bell for the second time... The third and soon finally he had come to the whole tenth time, yet still, there’s no sign of Kai answering the door. Aoi let out a low growl as he buried his face into his palm, telling himself to cool down. Aoi was persistent that Kai is home. Why? Because his extra keys was no where under the rug, inside the potted plant or inside one of the secret pockets of Kai’s special homemade door decoration he had made himself to store multiple extra keys if he had lost his current ones. Giving up, Aoi decided to break down the front door but his sudden instinct told him to turn the doorknob made him gape in awe. The door was left unlocked.
“Kai is a reckless… no… he is just forgetful… He just lost his cell phone and had his door unlocked. Therefore, I am allowed to be a Bitch and give him hell for the whole day,” Aoi told himself as he pushed to door open.
A sharp gasp came to him and his angers were replaced with horrors when the light from outside came pouring in, revealing a part of the main hall trashed. The sight of the house could make anyone believe that a storm really did come and go inside the household. Cautiously, Aoi made his way through the place while calling out from the drummer’s name. Aoi decided to follow his instincts once again, allowing his heart leads the way. He found himself standing in the middle of the living room that was dimly lit. The source of the light was from the blue tv screen which had nothing showed on it except for the million of the black tiny dots.
Annoyed with the noise and the channel less screen, Aoi searched for the remote control. He couldn’t think straight for the moment and the annoying sound is not helping him doing so. AS soon as he found the remote control on the floor, he finally found the person he had been trying to reach out for the past three hours. He was there lying helplessly at the hidden corner of the living room, covered with what it seems to look like a blanket or a bed sheet to Aoi.
“Kai...? Oh, shit! Kai? Are you alright?,” Aoi knelt down and checked on his friend if he was breathing or showing any signs of life. He was relief that he found the drummer breathing but his heart crumbled to pieces when he found out underneath the cover, the man was left nothing on. He was bare naked and tainted with black and blue bruises. But above all, he was grateful that Kai was half conscious when the drummer weakly responded when his name was being called.
“Shit..,” he cursed “We’re going to get help alright?” Aoi told the half conscious drummer as he clumsily rummages through his pants pocket for his cell phone. After calling up for an ambulance, Aoi made sure his dear friend is alright and still conscious since the person who answered his call told him to keep Kai awake as much as possible. That is when he heard the most puzzling word from Kai.
“T-they took him.. they took him…,”
Who took who?....
