She didn't know the cause or reason for them and none of it mattered. All she knew was that the noises off in the distance signified something bad, set off alarms in the back of her head, Danger, danger!, and she'd been through too much - too many worlds destroyed and the destruction had started like this - to disregard it or spend time staring dumbly in that general direction and wonder what was going on.
And she had to find Aerith.
Regardless of the permanence of death in this place, she felt nauseous at the mere thought of anything happening to her (him?). Going through what she'd gone through not that long ago (and she had no want to repeat that; dying was not a pleasant experience).
She ran.
She ran until his legs didn't want to work anymore, clear across the lower level from where she'd been trying to do some food shopping... and then she ran some more. The burning in her lungs didn't matter, either, nothing mattered as much as getting to Aerith and ensuring she was all right. Be safe, be safe be safe besafepleasebesafe- and she couldn't breathe by the time she staggered onto the street her home was located on, the lion fountain near the house as looming and mocking as always with its faces all staring at her. Leon nearly tripped over her own feet as he turned 'round in a quick, full circle, panicked, breathless.
