Ben's End-of-Kindergarten Round Up

Jun 25, 2015 07:33

Ben had many activities from the end of May through the end of June with his kindergarten class. Fortunately, I was able to attend most of them (except for the June birthdays party which happened just a few days after James was born)!

At the Eric Carle celebration: The kindergarten classes spent a lot of time reading Eric Carle books together this year and painting in the style of Eric Carle in art class, etc. Here, Ben is preparing to read us the story he wrote called "Friends in the Past Time"

The book was about a brachiosaurus who played ball with a bunch of other animals. Ben drew the pictures and wrote the text himself, which was pretty cool considering he was having trouble with some of his letters at the beginning of the year!

Then the class put on a little play based on the book "The Very Grouchy Ladybug".  Ben played the Gorilla.
(The boy in the purple shirt on the right lives next door to us and is such a great friend to Ben)

Next was the elementary school Field Days where the classes have little competitions outside all day. Each year students submit artwork to be featured on the annual shirt and each class wears a different color (which helps parents keep track of where their kids are on the field!)

Ben's class prepping for the tug-of-war.  That's Ben's teacher in the denim shorts on the right. The end of the year was much better with her-- both because Ben figured out how to behave in school and we think her family issues cleared up so she was less anxious and stressed.

His class gave a valiant effort, but they lost to one of the other kindergarten classes.  I love Mohammed's expression in this one and Ben pulling so hard he's on his tiptoes!

Ben and Lane took some time out from the activities to ride around in Lane's wagon.

The last activity before lunch (and before I left) involved passing a soaked sponge over the head to the person behind and then running to squeeze the rest of the water into a bucket at the end of the line. The class who filled up the bucket the most was the winner. None of the kindergarteners really got this concept.

"Olympic Week" showcase at gymnastics.  Ben is doing his straight jump on the trampoline track, but it looks like he's pretending to be a unicorn.  Both good things!

Leo checking it all out

Waiting for the next section

Bar is his best activity-- he has very good upper body strength

His coach gave him the "Determination" award for always trying the activity, even if he was unsure. Ben was the youngest in the class by a whole year, so keeping up with the bigger boys was sometimes a challenge!
The photos from his "Kindergarten Celebration" didn't turn out well, and I forgot to take a picture on his last day of school to compare to his first day photo. I saw a bunch of other moms posting those pictures on Facebook, but oh well

Lining up on the risers (of course he'd be on the top row)

Kindergarten class of 2015: there are about 80 students total

Getting his "diploma" from his teacher

Shaking hands with the outgoing principal, Dr. Reardon

I suppose this could count as his "end of year" photo, right?
