WEST CARTHAGE, N.Y.  -  Barbara R. Vallencour, 92, died early Sunday morning at the Country Manor Nursing and Rehabilitation Center, where she has resided since October 2008. She formerly lived on Potter Street in West Carthage.

Born Oct. 13, 1916, in Harrisville, a daughter of Runa Ensign Kilbourn and Anna Luther Kilbourn, she graduated from Harrisville High School in June 1934.

Mrs. Vallencour married Harlow E. Rounds on July, 28, 1934, and the marriage ended in divorce. She married Charles Reader on Oct. 15, 1940. He was killed in action aboard the USS Benjamin Franklin, CVA 13, on March 19, 1945. She married Frederick Vallencour 1950. This marriage ended in divorce in 1970.

She was a member of The United Community Church of Carthage, choir director at the former United Church of Christ, West Carthage, Veterans of Foreign Wars 7227 Auxiliary, past member Eastern Star and Carthage Area Hospital Auxiliary.

She was a waitress from 1936 to 1940, a clerk at Dutcher’s Dry Goods 1944 to 1947, a musician/pianist, giving lessons and playing in numerous dance bands. She was a postal clerk in Harrisville from 1947 to 1953. She then moved to West Carthage, owner and operator of Barb's Beauty Shoppe from 1956 to 1965, owner of the Red Brick Inn in Carthage from 1965 to 1976, when she retired.

She is survived by her two sons and their wives, Bruce and Norma J. Rounds, Carthage, Floyd and Carol Reader, Lake Bonaparte; four daughters and three sons-in-law, Deborah and Dr. Dennis Seubert, Kit and Reggie Purington, Nanette and James Rounds, Carthage, and her youngest daughter Cheryl Ann Vallencour, Watertown; two brothers, George Kilbourn, Fla., and Reuben Kilbourn, Harrisville and Florida; a sister, Eleanor Grigg, Lake Bonaparte and Florida; 15 grandchildren and 21 great-grandchildren; numerous nephews and nieces.

Two brothers and four sisters died before her.

Barbara enjoyed her children, grandchildren, great-grandchildren and her music.

Funeral services will be held 11 a.m. Saturday, Aug. 22, at United Community Church, Carthage, with Rev. Jane Wagner, Pastor, officiating. A private burial will take place in Harrisville Cemetery. Calling hours will be held 6 to 8 p.m. Wednesday, Aug. 19, at the Bossuot-Lundy Funeral Home, Inc., 500 State St., Carthage.

In lieu of flowers, memorial contributions may be made to the United Community Church of Carthage.
