Last year I was riveted to the TV. This year I watched select bits, in between dancing around my room like a loon, with The Darkness pumping. The Darkness are verging on being the coolest thing ever. But I digress.
I watched Ngaiire, Flynn, Beat Box Alliance, and the Final 12 songs, as well as the final announcement. I had been 'thoughtfully' informed of the winner by someone I was talking to on the net previously. To say I was annoyed was an understatement. But then after about ten minutes I realised I didn't really give a crap.
The Final 12 songs were simply a blazing reminder of how much better than everyone else Ricki Lee is. And how swoon-worthy Daniel is. He is. You all know it. Now that he's not a contestant anymore, they're obviously not having as much time spent on their makeup and preparation. The hair was going a bit 'fro.
I must admit to shedding a tear (or fifteen) when Casey was announced as Oz Idol. In one way I'm happy for her, cause she's an 'alternative' type, and she's a complete escape from that classic Idol stereotype. However, the practical side of me comes in and says 'Well, her studies are going to suffer, and now she's going to be locked into this controlling contract that probably won't give her anywhere near as much freedom as she'd like.' If Anthony had won, he could have quite happily churned out bubblegum pop for the record company as long as they required. Casey would more than likely had more say in what sort of contract she got if she'd come second. Deep down, I didn't want Anthony to win, cause he's a slimy little boyband type, but if he had've it probably would have worked out better for both of them. I can barely think of the backlash that is going to come from the tribe of 'We love Anthony!' 15-year-olds. Those message boards are pathetic enough as it is, it'll be horrendous now.
Don't really like the song. Heard it in the car on the way home today, and was just 'Meh.' It's ok. Classic Dianne Warren, and I've never been a big fan of her stuff. Too wanky and American. That said, 'I Don't Want To Miss a Thing' is possibly one of the best songs ever, but I'll just pretend I don't know that she wrote it.
So yeah. Idol's over, and I don't really care. Really missed the magic of last year. *sigh* They were a bit *whispers* boring. Did however like the bit at the end where they all came into a huddle and started spontaneously singing 'You Lift Me Up.' I was all 'Ohhhhh, that's DANIEL'S song!' until the mood was killed by lame other Dan taking photos with his digital camera in the huddle.
Stupid Dan. Ruining my Idol experience. Psssh.
I still love Andy G and his grand flicky hair.
This is the end of all Idol ramblings for 2004. *tear*
