Just to start off, I'd like to proclaim myself as a technical genius, as I have successfully programmed my VCR to pick up Channel 31 WITHOUT THE MANUAL! I rock. Shamefully, it was the fact of 'Oh God, if I don't do it, I won't be able to tape Gaunt on BASETV' that spurred me on. I sort of pushed buttons and hoped they'd work.
Anywhoo, onto the Whitlams from last night. Was a lovely night, I didn't get one mozzie bite, and I got a few good snaps. All of Jak, but good nonetheless. Having friends who get to things ridiculously early is always helpful. You guys rock, and you know it. Turned up just as the Whitlams walked on, and settled down front row centre.
Setlist was as follows:
No Aphrodisiac
Melbourne
Royal in the Afternoon
Gough
I Make Hamburgers
Made Me Hard
Kate Kelly
Charlie No. 3
Charlie No. 2
Laugh in Their Faces
Best Work
Cries Too Hard
Thank You
Blow Up the Pokies
You Sound Like Louis Burdett
Plus an encore of 'I Will Not Go Quietly' and something else. And I do stand corrected. It was Charlie #3 they played last night, not Charlie #1. I'm such a bad fan...
Our harmonic 'woo'-ing was a hell of a lot more impressive than the annoying 'We love you JAAAAAK!' squeals of the skanky girls to our right. And an impressive 'More sauce' on our part, even if I was so impressed to be part of Shona's first 'more sauce' that I almost forgot to yell it myself. Skanky girls should die. Good to note that Shona's 'Oh sweet JESUS!' or something along those lines got more of a laugh than 'Wooooo! Jaaaaak! We love you! You're our favourite!' Errrgh.
I thought I was imagining the fact that Jak was looking over at our group a lot, and was keeping a constant gaze down the barrel of my camera whenever it was pointed at him. Realised I WASN'T imagining it, but couldn't shake the teeny-esque thoughts of 'Shit, Jak's looking at me!' to be able to actually take a PHOTO of him looking at me. Got one of Warwick that's hilarious, but also pretty blurry. Big open mouth grin in a 'Woo! Someone's taking a photo of ME for a change!' kind of way.
Anything else to report? No, I don't think so. Jak rocked out, the little kiddies down the front rocked out, inspiring Jak to rock out even more. Ever since I saw him play for the first time, I've been mesmerised. No one plays like that. Looove it. Tim was in good form, cracking a few jokes, laughing at the roadie guy who was trying to do something with a large cord halfway through the set. Warwick didn't do a hell of a lot, but he never usually does. Lack of Terapai meant no beanie/cap action and the night was worse off without it. But still very good.
So, have some photos. It's essentially just a gallery of Jak, but I don't hear you complaining...
Pretty good lighting setup last night. Had shutter speed ranging from 1/50 to 1/100, which is the fastest I've shot yet.

That's the lot. Had to go to a christening today. Boring. Things in churches are boring. Didn't even bother reading out whatever the hell the congregation was meant to say. I think I'm going to hell.
U2 were in the STM today. Mmmmm, Bono. Mmmmmm, Larry. Hornbag rock gods.
