Tuesday after class

Draco heard a familar tapping on his window. He looked to make sure Jonathan wasn't in the room before opening the window to let his eagle owl in. The owl was carrying a package which, upon inspection, contained the condoms he asked for from his uncles. He tossed the box in his desk drawer and opened the letter that he knew that would come with it

Lily knocks on the door after her class. She needs... something right now.

Draco gets off his bed to go open the door. He smiles when he sees Lily.

"Hey." he says leaning in to kiss her hello.

Lily lets him kiss her, but puts no effort into returning it.

"Angelus?"

"I know! This is completely ridiculous. I can't believe this is happening." he says

Lily steps past Draco into the room and closes the door. She holds eye contact for a long moment. "Did he do it?" she asks quietly, not sure if he could answer and not sure if she wanted to hear it anyway.

"I don't think he did. What reason would he have?" he says "But I can't be one hundred percent sure of anything. Nobody can, which is why that stupid announcment the Sheriff gave is completely out of line."

Lily wants to believe that. Angelus has only ever been wonderfully nice to her. Nagging doubt persists at the back of her mind, though - too much of it for comfort.

Her hands ball themselves into tight fists, and she hopes Draco didn't notice that they were shaking a minute before. "Why would he run?"

Draco shrugs. "I don't know why he'd do it. Some people run when they're scared. And the announcement didn't really make it seem he had a standing chance to be proven innocent."

Lily sighs. This conversation is only making her more frustrated, which was not the goal. Why could Draco just 'shrug this off'? Looking miserable, she walks over to his bed and sits against the headboard. She hugs one of his pillows tightly.

Draco walks over to the bed and sits on the edge of it.

"I'm sure everything will get sorted out. I'll talk to Belthazor later and see what he wants to do. I don't think we can do much though. I wonder what kind of evidence they have against him."

Lily stares at the bedspread for a minute before looking up at him. "I'm sorry - this just sort of came out of nowhere. I'm not dealing with it very well, in case you couldn't tell." She offers him a weak smile, still clutching the pillow.

"I think everyone feels that way right now. I don't think the police handled this very well. If-when Angelus is proven innocent people are still going to be scared of him because the police pretty much said he was a killer."

He lowers himself down on the bed until he's lying across it. He puts his hands over his eyes in frustration.

"People are so stupid."

Lily is torn between wanting to wallow and her instinct to comfort. The latter wins out and she puts the pillow aside so she can reach for one of Draco's hands.

Draco takes Lily's hand and kisses it.

"Everything is going to be fine." he says in a comforting tone, trying to both reassure himself and Lily.

"We're too young for this," Lily says quietly. She lets go of Draco's hand long enough to lie down with her feet against the headboard and her head resting against his stomache. Once positioned, she reaches out to take his hand again and squeezes it tightly.

"I know. Reason I left Hogwarts in the first place was because things were getting too dark in the wizarding world. Didn't think stuff like this could happen at a muggle school." he says. He absentmindedly started to stroke Lily's hair.
