This. I think it has to do with a bunch of things though, really. A couple years back when it was us and a lot of people we all knew on ff.net, we were...not in competition with each other, but we did hold each other to a pretty high standard, IMHO. I saw stuff that you and Shades and Starhorse were putting out, and I wanted to improve my quality that much more (though my mileage did vary). So I guess we're a bit hipster. We were in the tf scene before the movies came out, so our stuff was generated more from the older verses.
While I happen to suck something awful at writing anything romance/smutty, I feel that those who only write that are kind of taking the easier way out. Much like in the visual medium. Plot? We don't need no stinkin' plot. Have some bewbs! Not that some of it isn't fine, or even good. Hell, I read a freaking STICKY that made me think "hm...they're actually a good writer with a good sense of character and development". So there's exceptions to everything. And hell, we all have something we write when we're taking our own easy way out. ( My Flattop, twins, character pieces, what?)
But yeah, we need some more of the other stuff too. I've been trying to write more, and I still have a lot more to go with prompts and older stuff I want to finish, like Mr. Nice Guy.
This exactly. The first part and the pre-movie early days. It was the same for me. I'd be reading your stuff and Shades' and Starhorse's and Nightwind's and all these peoples' fics and thinking, "well shit, they're good. Time to up my game a little more."
That's missing now I feel.
Now it's just about trying to out-kink the other guy. Which, fine. Write what you want. But as a reader, I'm just here going, "aw c'mon, another one?"
Hipsters unite indeed. I'm plotting something, if that helps.
Plotting is good! Thank you for the compliments on the No Longer Mourn series. While there's stuff I'd change if I had to do it again, I dunno if I could actually write it from scratch now. And that's kind of depressing. I haven't done anything longer than one shots in so long, I dunno how to do longer things anymore. NvN needs to get done, but I'm afraid of it just turning into a bunch of one-shots.
Wish there was a way to get all the old crew back together again and try to get that back. Thankfully many of us are still here on LJ, along with newer(ish) way awesome people like playswithworms.
What say you, hipsters? Would we be able to write for each other again?

So c'mon, fellow hipsters! :D
