The last few days had been different with Jake and her mom hovering more than usual. Quality girl time at Elena's house was a good reality check for Caroline, helping her focus on things other than her father's actions or the classes and football game she had missed while recovering.
Especially since Elena had plenty to share after her failed trip to Chicago to try and coerce Stefan to come home. Caroline thought it was really too bad Elena never bothered to take the girls with her on these trips, considering her own level of friendship with Stefan.
Since he'd been along, the story unfortunately involved a lot of Damon. Caroline was chastised for rolling her eyes and implying that Elena was swapping a temporarily bad Salvatore for a permanently jerkish one. Maybe Caroline was just a bigger fan of the Elena-Stefan epic love story, or maybe she just hated Damon for being an abusive jackass. Not caring how others felt, Elena was all about Damon being her only hope for getting Stefan back from the ripper side of life and seemed determined that Caroline and Bonnie would accept Damon as a help if they wanted to stick around. It was a hard bargain for Caroline to swallow.
And it didn't actually stop her from voicing her opinions. She thought Elena should be glad that someone told her the truth, though speaking her mind left Caroline walking home alone after being asked to leave. Even in her huffy state, she remembered to send a quick text to keep certain people informed of her whereabouts.
