After eating, they'd made the big decision to suffer through another couple hours in the car before stopping. Okay, so it was more like Caroline had taken one look at their accommodations list and decided sleeping in the car was more pleasant.

It had been a good choice since they'd come across an actual recognizable motel chain only a few hours later and now Caroline was showered and feeling almost human as she rubbed a towel through her hair. "So, this is maybe the best part of today."

It wasn't really surprising that Jake was sprawled out on the King sized bed, wearing nothing but his boxers and eating a bag of M&Ms from the machine outside.

"You're going to have a rough week, huh?" he guessed, taking the chance to appreciate her all fresh out of the shower.

She made a face at him before throwing her wet hair towel at his face. "You mean you're going to have a rough week."

"If you're having a rough one, I'm sure you're going to make me have on too," he teased, laughing as he caught the towel and tossed it at the chair.

There was some truth in his teasing and it wasn't like she could just ignore it as she dropped onto the end of the bed. "I'm already making you miserable, huh?"

He raised an eyebrow at her and poked her hip with his foot. "Do I look miserable to you?"

"No, but some people are really good at hiding their feelings." Not that Jake was one of them. "You can't say you're excited to be trapped in the car with me for longer than necessary."

"Depends, how many quizzes do you have in that magazine of yours?" he teased as he rested his foot against her thigh.

"Only one per magazine, but I was totally hoping to pick up a few more in the morning," she offered.

"We're going to need more magazines," he teased before growing more serious. "If you really hate this, you could always grab a portal and go home before me. Catch up with some friends," he offered.

"I don't hate it," she said, reaching to give his foot a rub. "And I wouldn't like the idea of you driving across the country without me."

"Are you worried I'd get lost?" he teased her, but he was kind of glad she wasn't jumping at the chance.

"Yes. You might be a wolf, but that doesn't mean you know where you're going in a car," she told him. "Besides, something tells me you wouldn't like the idea of me hanging in Mystic Falls without you."

"So far you don't really have a good track record when you're going off on your own," he pointed out, deciding to ignore the first part since it wasn't true.

"One time," she told him, turning over so he could see her rolling her eyes at him. "I get kidnapped one time and you assume it's an everyday sort of thing."

"It's the only time I let you go off alone!" he pointed out. "You can see why I'm worried, right? Wouldn't you be if you let me go alone and I end up getting crushed?"
