"Because Washington is actually bigger than just La Push and Seattle put together," he shot her a look, trying not to seem too amused. "Bored?"

Like that wasn't obvious.

She turned to face him with a frown. "Is it that obvious?" Somehow Caroline was deluded into thinking she'd been trying hard not to seem as bored as she felt. Maybe it was just that the feeling of boredom was taking over her entire being.

"Only because I know you, babe," he soothed her, even if it was a big damn lie. "You realise we've got about 2500 miles to go, right?"

"Today?" Her whole body seemed to slump in the disappointment of hearing they were trapped in his tiny car for the rest of forever.

"Well... no, that'd be kind of technically impossible," he pointed out. "I mean, I suppose we could drive in one go, I can do that long without sleep, but we'd kind of want to die afterwards."

She kind of wanted to die at the thought of a billion more days of this. "Yeah, so not happening unless you drug me."

"I'm not drugging you," he laughed. "You could play with your iPad," he suggested. "There's some fun games on there." Especially the ones with cars which he might have downloaded despite his technology ineptness.

"I did that already," she pointed out with a sigh, but there she was, pulling it out of her bag anyway. "Aren't you bored yet? I mean, all you're doing is driving down a really, really long, green, wet road." Since it seemed the rain was going to stalk them home.

"Nah," he shrugged. "I kind of like it. It's been a while since I got to drive the Rabbit. I thought I'd end up having to sell her."

"Her," Caroline repeated, finger scrolling across the screen as she searched for something interesting to look at. "Like she's done some really good things for you."

"She's my first car, babe. Isn't that always good?" he chuckled. "Plus, I rebuild her myself. Learned a lot doing it, too. That's got to count for something, right?"

Yeah, that wasn't going to stop Caroline from rolling her eyes at the use of a female pronoun to discuss a car. "I'd say she is a great first car, but I don't know what that's supposed to count for. Did you want me to stroke her window sill and whisper sweet nothings to her?"

Jake sighed at the mocking and shrugged his shoulder. "Whatever. Girls don't get it."

"Nope, not really," she agreed, reaching across to pet his thigh reassuringly. "But oooh, if you want me to get you, we can totally take this quiz I saw in my magazine last week!" Somehow this idea excited her into grinning and bouncing a little in her seat.

Somehow Jake had a bad feeling about this. It might be because he'd seen what magazines she read and they rarely had cars in them. "What kind of quiz?"

She dumped her tablet back in her bag and retrieved a paper magazine and a pen. "Okay, so I think it was something like, figuring out what game your man is playing. Totally fun, right?"
