title: clarity and those who don't have it
Eunhyuk/Donghae
humor with some fluff
This is...well. Yes.
Eunhyuk had been awake for eight minutes and thirteen seconds; he'd brushed his teeth, blinked tiredly at himself in the mirror, and said what barely passed as a greeting -he wasn't entirely coherent in the mornings- to Sungmin as they'd side-stepped each other in the hallway. By all accounts the post-it stuck to his forehead should not have gone unnoticed for as long as it had.
"Um," said Ryeowook. He stopped eating breakfast and stared up at Eunhyuk.
"You have something on your face," said Kangin.
"What?" asked Eunhyuk.
Kyuhyun reached over, pulled off the post-it, and handed it back to Eunhyuk. "It was stuck to you," he said.
Eunhyuk looked down at Donghae's familiar handwriting and tried to process just what exactly was written.
Good morning Hyukkie!! Let's make today great! Love, Donghae ♥♥
In the corner of the note was a circular, squiggly, blob-thing that Eunhyuk thought might be a flower, but when he turned the image on its side it more resembled a an oddly mutated human. Upside-down, Eunhyuk could almost see a likeness to Heechul's cat. "What?" he asked, again. "How?"
"I don't know," answered Kangin. "I'm not in charge of your face."
"What about Hyukjae's face?" asked Yehsung as he stepped into the kitchen.
"He's getting love notes on it," said Ryeowook, reading over the post-it. Kyuhyun peered over Ryeowook's shoulder and pointed at the drawing in the corner. "What is that supposed to be?"
Yehsung leaned in to get a better look. "I think it's Hyukjae."
Everyone turned to look at Eunhyuk in what he felt was a very scrutinizing and uncomfortable way. He grabbed Donghae's note and took a step back. When Ryeowook tilted his head to the side and hmm'd in a thoughtful manner, Eunhyuk decided it was time he went anywhere else. He hoped it looked less like he was running away than he thought he did.
Eunhyuk managed to go the rest of the morning and right up until mid-afternoon without anyone mentioning love notes or comparing him with Donghae's strange interpretation of art. All was well and good and he was completely off his guard which, he realized with a soul-crushing sadness, was just the opportunity Donghae needed. As Eunhyuk was trying to fix his hair Donghae sneaked up behind him, wrapped his arms around Eunhyuk, effectively trapping him where he stood, and began to blow on the back of Eunhyuk's neck.
"Ew," said Heechul. "Take your romance out of my line of sight. Shiwon, do something."
Shiwon blinked a few times, unsure of what he could do. Eventually he moved to stand between Heechul and Eunhyuk, bringing Hankyung with him so they could continue with their conversation, and still manage to do Heechul's bidding.
"Romance?" questioned Sungmin excitedly. "Who's being romantic?"
"Hyukjae and Donghae," supplied Yehsung helpfully as he walked passed all of them to go stand by Kibum.
"Oh," replied Sungmin, sounding dejected. "I thought it was something new."
"But-- I," Eunhyuk tried to say. "I mean. We aren't. What?"
"It's okay," said Donghae, patting him on the head. "I'll make everything better." Donghae took a moment to puff out his cheeks and look thoughtful. "Will food work?"
"We have to be on stage in five minutes," said Eunhyuk sadly.
Donghae handed over his water bottle with a smile. "There, all better," he said, and then he walked off to wherever to do something Eunhyuk was just as happy not to know about.
"What?" Eunhyuk asked again, staring down at the water bottle in his hand.
Hours later and Eunhyuk was still entirely confused by the people around him -mostly Donghae, though he had made a list- but he was successfully not thinking about any of it and Eeteuk had better sense than to bring it up. Or maybe Eeteuk didn't know. Or care. Either way, Eunhyuk was grateful for the relative calm. His nerves were distressingly on edge.
But then Eunhyuk's phone buzzed and after that he was mostly just grateful that he wasn't the type of person to squeak.
Today I saw a woman in a pink hat drive by in a green car and it reminded me of you! ^-^ ♡♡♡!!! read Donghae's message.
"What," said Eunhyuk.
"What?" echoed Eeteuk.
Eunhyuk held out his phone to Eeteuk and waved his other arm around in and attempt at an explanation. Eeteuk looked once at the phone right in front of him, his eyes crossing a little, then back at Eunhyuk. "Huh," he said, then turned back to the mic, but still watched Eunhyuk suspiciously. "Okay."
Eunhyuk couldn't help but feel a little judged.
At the end of the night - or very early in the morning -, when Eunhyuk was finally home and in bed and peacefully asleep, he was unfairly woken up by someone crawling on top of him. He didn't even have to open his eyes to know who.
"Hello," said Donghae.
Eunhyuk shifted and tried to pull his blanket over his head. "Didn't I lock the door?" he muttered, nowhere near as annoyed as he was trying to sound.
Donghae didn't answer. Instead he moved over and completely covered Eunhyuk with his body. They were chest to chest and Donghae's face was pressed against Eunhyuk's neck and he could feel Donghae's breath against his skin. It should have been suffocating and uncomfortable, thought Eunhyuk, but it was actually rather nice.
"Are we dating?" he asked, finally.
Donghae turned his head to the side and kissed Eunhyuk's shoulder. "Yes."
"Huh," said Eunhyuk. That did clear up a lot of things. "Were you ever going to tell me?"
"If you didn't figure it out by the weekend then I would have," answered Donghae.
