I drove to Yreka today, (near Oregon's border) it was a very pretty ride, I just found out I need to go on Blue Cross' "Rural Plan" or "Non Metropolitan Network" in order to see a doctor out here (in Redding). I went 55-65 mph and didn't feel rushed. In SoCal I could barely stand going less than 80 mph, but up here it's just dreamy. Perhaps in SoCal the roads are so damned ugly, that it's painful to spend too much of the mind's eye taking them in. After the Siskiyou County Office of Ed Safety Committee Meeting, I got to pet a foal (baby horse) on someone's farm, it was very sweet. Still wierded out about how hardly anyone in California even feigns awareness that anything north of San Francisco/Sacramento exists, yet it's gigantic taking up almost 50% of California's landmass. Once you enter the towns, they're small, but it's not that extreme, I think Redding is actually too big to be called Rural. I can't believe Blue Cross considers Redding to be Rural, so wierd.
Oh yeah, I didn't really update, but I volunteered at the PBS TV station (not the radio station as I updated before) for two hours last Friday and it sucked. Basically, well, I'm through with being enthused about grunt work. I guess I just don't care enough. I'll just give them my money. Man, what a snob, heh. No, they just had me on the phone soliciting donations from businesses for thier Holiday Auction. They do these 5 times a year, how annoying is that? I already did this in college, and I gave it 110% then, but I can't do it anymore. KDVS deserved my time, but I have better things to do than perform low level tasks so that I can one day graduate to a volunteer position where I switch TV transmitters, pop in tapes, or help produce lame shows. It was one of those "oh shit" lifechanging moments. I'll probably help for a couple more sessions, then, phehy.
I'm going to the Shasta International Film Festival on Friday and Saturday, I'm excited!
