Weird Dream
I had the weirdest dream last night. I dreamed that I was working at McDonald's and I was fairly new there. I was by myself on a register. I was struggling a little bit to find all the right buttons, but I was getting through it.
Then I got a customer who requested a burger with no pickles/no onions. I looked and looked and couldn't find buttons to put in his order minus pickles & onions. So I went to find somebody to tell me how to do it. They said that they didn't offer special requests like that -- that it was too hard for the grill to deal with special orders. So what I had to do was get a finished burger and just pick the pickles and onions off before giving it to him.
I protested to that. I said that pickles and onions leave their taste behind on everything they touch, so even if I picked them off he'd still taste them and his burger would be ruined. I also felt very strongly that if the customer wanted his burger without pickles and onions then he should be able to have that. The response I got was basically a disinterested shrug.
So I kept running around the restaurant trying to find somebody who would agree to make this man a burger the way he wanted it. Nobody would do it. I was so outraged by this that I was in tears.
Finally I made my way back to the register and explained to the man that all I could do was pick them off, and did he want that. He didn't, and he left. I was so disgusted by my employer's stance on this that I turned around toward the back office, to quit and walk off right now. That's when I woke up.
