Можно вспомнить, что, накануне украинской революции  одной из претензий к Януковичу было политически мотивированное уголовное преследование Юлии Тимошенко и других членов оппозиции. Над преодолением этой претензии неутомимо работал Пол Манафорт, размещая заказные статейки в американской прессе.

Несмотря на усилия Манафорта в ноябре 2013, за неделю до событий на Майдане, Сенат США единогласно принял межпартийную резолюцию с призывом освободить Тимошенко.

Resolved, That the Senate-
(1) calls on the Government of Ukraine to release former Prime Minister Yulia Tymoshenko from imprisonment based on politicized and selective charges and in light of the April 2013 European Court of Human Rights verdict;
(2) calls on the European Union members to include the release of Ms. Tymoshenko from imprisonment based on politicized and selective charges as a criterion for signing an association agreement with Ukraine at the upcoming Eastern Partnership Summit in Lithuania;

Q And former Ukrainian Prime Minister Yulia Tymoshenko was -- or is to be freed, if she hasn’t already, after two and a half years behind bars, a conviction that was largely viewed as political. White House’s thought on that?
MR. CARNEY: We have repeatedly called on the government of Ukraine to end its use of selective prosecutions, and that includes the prosecution of former Prime Minister Tymoshenko. And we are hopeful that she will be released from prison so she can receive the medical treatment that she needs.

"On the plus side, the Obama administration understands well the nuances of Ukrainian reform. It recognizes that the government in Kyiv needs outside encouragement and, at times, tough love, to make the right reform choice. Mr. Biden, in particular, has devoted a great deal of time to promoting reform in Ukraine, and he has not been reluctant to tell Mr. Poroshenko and Mr. Yatsenyuk when they have shirked the hard choices that need to be made. This was evident in the conversations regarding Mr. Shokin and the Office of the Procurator General.
The United States has also provided substantial, but insufficient, economic support for Ukraine. In FY 2015, we provided $361.8 million in economic assistance. The budget that has been approved for FY 2017 reduces that to $294.9 million. Both are substantial sums, but not sufficient to help in the present crisis and not consistent with our interests.
As Gen. Joseph F. Dunford, Jr., Chairman of the Joint Chiefs of Staff, has stated, Mr. Putin’s revisionist policies make Russia the greatest national security danger to the United States. We need to blunt this danger, and the first place to do that is in Ukraine. Moscow’s aggression against Ukraine has greatly increased the burden on that country’s economy. We should consider economic assistance to Ukraine as an investment in our security, a point that former Treasury Secretary Larry Summers has made in advocating a Western aid package of $10 billion.
The United States should shoulder up to $5 billion of this package. It should consist of loan guarantees, direct budget support grants, and debt swaps, as well as assistance to support reforms in key sectors, such as banking, energy, and the judiciary. It could also be used to encourage investment in Ukraine. <...>
This aid package is quite large, but not when seen as an investment in our security or a step to meet our obligations to Ukraine under the Budapest Memorandum. Coupled with strong military assistance and the maintenance of sanctions on Moscow, this aid would help Ukraine defeat the Kremlin’s aggression and transform itself into a prosperous democracy."

On March 30, 2016, Gates emailed the memoranda and a press release announcing Manafort’s appointment to Kilimnik for translation and dissemination. Manafort later followed up with Kilimnik to ensure his messages had been delivered, emailing on April 11, 2016 to ask whether Kilimnik had shown “our friends” the media coverage of his new role. Kilimnik replied, “Absolutely. Every article.” Manafort further asked: “How do we use to get whole. Has Ovd [Oleg Vladimirovich Deripaska] operation seen?” Kilimnik wrote back the same day, “Yes, I have been sending everything to Victor [Boyarkin, Deripaska’s deputy], who has been forwarding the coverage directly to OVD.”

On June 15, 2016 a blog post to a WordPress site authored by an individual using the moniker Guccifer 2.0 claimed credit for breaching the Democratic National Committee. This blog post presents documents alleged to have originated from the DNC.
Whether or not this posting is part of a Russian Intelligence disinformation campaign, we are exploring the documents’ authenticity and origin. Regardless, these claims do nothing to lessen our findings relating to the Russian government’s involvement, portions of which we have documented for the public and the greater security community.

Some of the lawmakers laughed at McCarthy’s comment. Then McCarthy quickly added: “Swear to God.”
Ryan instructed his Republican lieutenants to keep the conversation private, saying: “No leaks. . . . This is how we know we’re a real family here.”

Rep. Ed Royce, a California Republican and the committee’s chairman, scotched the plan to show the film during a June 14, 2016, committee hearing.

In a briefing that closely aligned with Dr. Hill’s testimony, American intelligence officials informed senators and their aides in recent weeks that Russia had engaged in a yearslong campaign to essentially frame Ukraine as responsible for Moscow’s own hacking of the 2016 election, according to three American officials. The briefing came as Republicans stepped up their defenses of Mr. Trump in the Ukraine affair.
The revelations demonstrate Russia’s persistence in trying to sow discord among its adversaries - and show that the Kremlin apparently succeeded, as unfounded claims about Ukrainian interference seeped into Republican talking points. American intelligence agencies believe Moscow is likely to redouble its efforts as the 2020 presidential campaign intensifies. The classified briefing for senators also focused on Russia’s evolving influence tactics, including its growing ability to better disguise operations.

A lawyer for an indicted associate of Rudy Giuliani told CNN that his client is willing to tell Congress about meetings the top Republican on the House Intelligence Committee had in Vienna last year with a former Ukrainian prosecutor to discuss digging up dirt on Joe Biden.
The attorney, Joseph A. Bondy, represents Lev Parnas, the recently indicted Soviet-born American who worked with Giuliani to push claims of Democratic corruption in Ukraine. Bondy said that Parnas was told directly by the former Ukrainian official that he met last year in Vienna with Rep. Devin Nunes.
"Mr. Parnas learned from former Ukrainian Prosecutor General Victor Shokin that Nunes had met with Shokin in Vienna last December," said Bondy. <...>
Bondy told CNN that Parnas is also willing to tell Congress about a series of regular meetings he says he took part in at the Trump International Hotel in Washington that concerned Ukraine. According to Bondy, Parnas became part of what he described as a "team" that met several times a week in a private room at the BLT restaurant on the second floor of the Trump Hotel. In addition to giving the group access to key people in Ukraine who could help their cause, Parnas translated their conversations, Bondy said.
The group, according to Bondy,  included Giuliani, Parnas, the journalist Solomon, and the married attorneys Joe diGenova and Victoria Toensing. Parnas said that Harvey would occasionally be present as well, and that it was Parnas' understanding that Harvey was Nunes' proxy, Bondy said. 
Solomon confirmed the meetings to CNN but said that calling the group a team was a bit of a mischaracterization.
