First, we'll imagine what would happen if you reunited:
Boy, your parents sure are upset and disappointed. Did you not enlist your father's help to get rid of him? Is he not the cause of your current financial difficulties that your parents are assisting you with? Your parents really wanted someone better for you.
Your friends are disappointed, too. They've seen what he has done (knife to throat...hitting...verbal abuse) and can't imagine why you've reunited with him. They really want you to be happy and know he's not capable of doing that for you.
Now, let's imagine a little further in the future:
Gosh, he hasn't changed at all, has he? He just won't take responsibility for his actions. He still won't get and keep work. He's still as abusive as ever. He alienates your family and friends and spends money that isn't even there. You're deeper in debt than ever.
Further still:He's really no good with the kids, is he? He abuses you ( ... )
