Take It Away: Chapter 4

            "What?" Ian questioned. "Anthony's alive?"

"Yes, he is, and as he puts it, you are his best friend," One of the men calmly said.

"Yeah, he is, we've been best friends since the 6th grade," Ian replied.

The man's voice was rising now as he barked back, "Then, sir, could you please tell me why it is that we found your fingerprints at the scene of the crime?"

"What crime scene?" Ian asked, hiding his shame. As the man continued to stare at him, he began again, "I don't remember any-"

Ian was cut short as the police officer yelled, "Of course you do! Your fingerprints were there, you were there with him, he made you mad, and you swung at him. The swing nearly killed him, and you are charged with attempted murder."

Ian's heart filled at the sound of these words, and he began to plead, "Sir, I'm sorry, so sorry that I hurt him. I got mad, so mad, and swung. I never meant to hurt him, and, and-" Ian then broke out into loud sobs, begging, pleading for any chance to see his friend again, and to tell him how sorry he was.

After about 5 minutes of hearing this, the police oficer cut him off, and said, "There is still one thing that doesn't make any sense. Why did you drive your car off the edge of the cliff?"

"I didn't do it on purpose. I was so worried about my friend that I was driving back to see if he was okay-y. I ha-ad forgotten my sho-oes, and my foot slipped."  Ian continued to cry, barley unable to speak.

"Bullshit. We know that isn't the whole truth, we know-" he got cut short by a nurse running into the room to grab a doctor.

"Sir, he's crashing. Anthony is dying."
