Wow...last night was simply amazing. First, I go to Meijer for no particular reason and find a Green Day tribute album covered by a couple of bluegrass bands. Its actually really good. Anyway, while I'm there I get a call from the ex to help trim her cat's nails. I wasn't really in the mood, but I had been trying to talk to her for a while and it was a chance to finally pin her down. I won't go into details as they can be a little personal, but there is one point worth mentioning because it pulls the whole night together. For various well-founded reasons, I cannot stand the guy she was seeing, but now is only kind-of seeing. I will explain. She started dating Nathan roughly two weeks after the breakup. It lasted a few months and then he found out he could get what he wanted without the actual commitment. I think I was very supportive...mostly by just letting her go do her own thing and just avoid the topic altogether in the interest of maintaining the friendship. However, she accused me of constantly bashing Nathan in a letter two months ago. This is one of the topics that came up last night. I told her that I had intentionally avoided the topic as it seemed to bother her, but if she really wanted to know what I thought, I would tell her. I listed said well-founded reasons why I don't like Nathan and that she would be way better off without him. She then told me to leave, which I did.

This is where the situation jumps off of the deep end.

I get back to my apartment (all 20 some odd stairs) and make a call to vent a little, when I receive a phone call. Unknown number...huh...well I guess I'll take it, what the hell, right? Yup, it was Nathan. He tells me how I made his girl cry and that if I ever talk to her or her cousin* again that he would break my door down and kick the shit out of me. He called several various names and such. He insisted that he had never hit her and that I was going to die for saying things of that sort. He made a few more similar comments and then hung up on me. I immediately called him back to get a word in. He didn't even answer. I had to leave a message that I only made her cry to show her the rut she is in, that he is abusive only not in a physical sense, and that he if he thought it was necessary, I would give him a run for his money in a fair fight and laugh my ass off when the hauled him off to jail. Then I called Steph, who also didn't answer, and thanked her for setting her bulldog on me and also told her that I wasn't referring to physical abuse. Then I went to Mike's for a beer and to vent a little.

At least I found an interesting album.

*This requires some explanation. I am really good friends with her cousin, Bridgette. We mostly hang out and have fun, but we do occasionally talk about Steph. Certain stories come up, not as gossip, but from genuine concern for Steph. This has been misconstrued as an attempt to "split up the family." I would be much happier still thinking Nathan is an idiot, but I do know about certain aspects of the relationship that take him above and beyond just an idiot boyfriend. So, there it is. Bridgette, however, was surprised that Nathan was making threats on her behalf, as she can't stand him either.
