I am watching the Tony's and I have to say that I love actors. I love the enthusiasm and joy with which people of the stage immerse themselves in and revel at accomplishment. It makes me miss the stage...I realize at this moment that I can never leave the stage for good as I had once assumed possible. I may love literature, I may love English, ( Read more... )

I must say that I disagree with the movie actors will never catch up to stage actors idea. With disregard to Julia Roberts, film actors have to work just as hard to make a good performance. Yes, there are numerous takes they are given for scenes, but they are not given rehearsals or direction. Every single move or thought is documented on that camera, so any trace of falseness in their performance is noticed, whereas on stage it is more easily missed. All that to say, I think film and stage are two different art forms. Both are beautiful in their own way and comparing them is near impossible.

oh dear. I hated doing that. I had no clue what I was doing. But I got to wear a suit and that's all that mattered.

Understood. I can see what you’re saying, I suppose I just have a greater love for the work done on stage and I get tired of movie actors coming to Broadway like they have some right to it. It bothers me to see them get leads… like Julia Roberts, who got horrid reviews, duh, in Seven Days of Rain. Why can we not stick to our own? The best shows I have seen on Broadway were all full of actors (who I knew, because I follow Broadway explicitly) who no one would know right off but managed to make for the best possible shows. Then there are shows with huge actors who blow. I mean BLOW ( ... )

oh I agree. I hate that you have to be a film actor to get a spot on broadway. It's funny because I was watching "Broadway: the golden age" and it made me think of how different it used to be, and I wish I was alive to truly understand it. I'm with you, babe, on that.

:) I couldn't agree more. Even Hollywood then was a completely different place. Dude, when I get my time machine built you and I are so going back. hehe
