The adventure continues the next day. After a long night ;) I didn't get home till the next morning. After standing guard at the house for most of the day while the workers were busy finishing up the house, I slept most of the time... even turned down going to Fry's with Rich. I was iffy on playing at Pusod for Jame's show. I woke up around 2:30 and realized I was late in picking up most of the food for the party later on that night. I made my way to Banana Q's to pick up Jesse's order of Senorita Bread. I bought som turon too to bring to the party and then I made my way to DJ's to pick up the lechon. Hella food. Ok that was set. By 3:30 I realized that I wasn't gonna be able to play OR attend Jame's show at Pusod. I figured that since Brian Bruce was gonna be there, he'll probably take my place. He's a much better guitarist anyways. I still wanted to show my support so Rich and I trekked over there around 5 to watch the practice sessions. When I got to Pusod, the place was decked out with equipment. Chris brought his portable recording studio and it was really impressive. Got to see James, backed by folks from Amorsolo (Mel & Dennis) and Kaye from Potato Couch perform a couple takes on a couple songs. Maya and Mike Price were in the house. I felt really bad cutting out early because we had some food and equipment to bring over to Dawn's for the cookie party. But I know James is tight, he's a born performer and he excels in the spotlight. Good luck man.
Next, Rich and I trekked to Oakland to pick up Rupert, who was worried we wouldn't get to the city on time to get to Super 7. San Francisco's premiere Japanese Toy/Culture shop. Turns out one of the members of the former outfit, What Happen's Next? worked there and he was gonna hook up Rupert FAT!!!! He used to own a Record Label and put out some releases from bands from Japan. Rupert gave me a couple of them and a What Happen's Next poster. He also hooked up Rupert with some kick ass shirts and behold... TWISTED RED CROSS tapes!!! Philippine's first and legendary DIY punk label. There were about 14 in all. Rich and I plan to digitally transfer the tapes to mp3's/CD's so we can 1. own a piece of history, and 2. be part of it in exposing other people to the releases. We plan on making bootlegs of it. It was an array of material, G.I. and the Idiots, Dead Ends, Philippine Violators and other assorted bands I'm not aware of, but anxious to hear. It was fun seeing Rupert's enthusiasm. Rich and I marveled at Rup's vast knowledge and enthusiasm. It was like christmas for that guy. kudos to him... Rupert, you better hook me up!!! I also ran into Mike Park and his girlfriend... and dude, I'm so honored that he know's my name... and I ain't even in a band! I just wanna say, along with Jesse, he's one of my heroes. Truly living the American Dream, living a happy life and doing what he loves. At the same time, he runs the plea for peace campaign, which is for an excellent cause. Afterwards, we headed to Dawn's place for the cookie party! And man, I haven't eaten like that in a while! lechon, Mungo, fried chicken (woo hoo!), lumpia, dawn's hella grubbin okoy! GANG PANANG!! Even King of Thai was there... some pineapple fried rice.... Mmmmmm... sarap! Also desert was off the hook! Dawn's infamous leche plan, and I think Jesse made the polvoron. The cookies were awesome. Man, I was full. Jesse, Dawn... Thank You! As for the cookie contest, I saw some really good ones. I have a feeling Ron's Godzilla is gonna win. Tricia's was also good, which depicted the hooded Iraqi prisoners from the U.S. prison scandal. Dang no holds barred! I like Olivia's fruit shaped cookies as well. Really detailed. Someone even made kill bill cookies of the bride and pai mei! Rich made an angry amputee gingerbread man, and a satanic care bear, complete with a pentagram. After spinning a couple records, I finally got to making a couple. I made 2: A beheaded gingerbread man, and ninja star to the neck on a transgendered gingerbread man wearing bellbottoms. The second one was custom made! All in all, it was a very fun night. Good food, good times, with good people. Happy holidays to all who read this.
