Response to Fahrenheit 9/11

Jul 14, 2004 01:03

Well I'm posting this nearly a week and a half after I thought I would. I was quite busy with my practicum for my internship. I never knew how much hard work teaching required.

Warning: Don't read this if politics bores you )

I always wonder how you manage to read my voluminous, verbose entries when you have 150+ people on your LJ friends list.

I'm glad you "thoroughly enjoyed" this...and the icon =)

I like this phrase, cognitive dissonance.
I also really liked your second-to-last paragraph.
jolly good!

Hehe thanks, I borrowed the phrase "cognitive dissonance" from NY Times columnist Bill Safire.

very impressive.

I was well aware that a few things Moore pointed out contradicted what he personally stood for, but I felt he was doing it to provide a point of view to others. I'm mainly talking about the thing where he says we didn't send enough troops to Afganistan.

we gotta hang out a few more times before you leave... : (

I'm missing you already man. I'm sure I'll see you around at some point in the future.

P.S. Just out of curiousity, did you end up dropping some friends like you said you might do?

sort of, but not really. I just keep my distance or try to push as much influence as possible when substance abuse comes up.

Since Bush had heard of the attacks while he was in his limo, it may well have been the right idea to cancel the photo-op and attend to the country in some way (i.e. at least get more information and possibly order the fighter squadrons which should have been on the first and second planes (which he ordered grounded earlier, for whatever reason) to intercept the planes currently in the air.

I have more to say, but later.

To the best of my knowledge, Bush didn't hear about the WTC attacks until the first plane had crashed...and that was in the middle of his photo-op. Please cite your source.

I'm looking forward to whatever else you have to say. If this post gets too big, just e-mail me your responses at milad705@sbcglobal.net

1. The purge was more than ex-felons. It was so haphasard that if your name was similar to a felon you could have been purged. Say John K. Hicks vs. John R. Hicks. K is a released drug dealer, R is an elementary school teacher. Eitherway, it was deliberate and criminal.

2. Left the room immediately, consulted with the Secretary of Defense, CIA and FBI Directors, the NSA, Secretary of State, NTSB, FEMA, and counterterrorism units. He could have acted much much quicker and very likely could have saved lives. Say, shooting down the plane that struck the Pentagon. Been a goddamn leader, something he's never ever been in his life.

Michael Moore is a commentator, not an AP Staff Writer. Half of what he does is for shock effect alone. Oh, and Bush was completely incompetant before 9/11, completely disengaged.

1. I'd like to see proof that mistakes between names were deliberate and criminal. "No one has proven intent to disenfranchise any group of voters."

In retrospect, my comments on Moore's depiction of the Florida purge was nitpicking.

2. You're damn right, he's never been a leader in his life. But just remember that the 9/11 commission praised Bush's resolve and calmness during the attacks. I know what you'll say- half of the 9/11 commission is made up of Republicans; asking Republicans to investigate Bush is like asking Philip Morris to investigate the deleterious impact of cigarettes. But keep in mind that the 9/11 commission's findings thus far have mostly amounted to negative press for Bush.

3. Michael Moore is a commentator, not an AP Staff Writer."I realize that Moore’s film wasn’t designed to be an objective account of the last four years ( ... )
